In 1961 a retired race car driver had a dream to find a sports car
that could fit a more powerful V8 motor. That man was Carroll
Shelby and that car became the Shelby Cobra. Shelby wrote to AC
asking them to join him on this endeavor and they agreed should a
suitable engine be found. He initially contacted Chevrolet but with
the recent introduction of the Corvette, they refused. His next
stop was Ford who understandably wanted something to compete with
the Corvette and thus the Cobra was born. These cars have an
extensive history in the automobile world and make for some of the
coolest street cars on the road. These factory race cars can fetch
in the millions of dollars nowadays which is why car builders are
turning towards replicas to create their dream cars. This 65 Cobra
was manufactured by a company called Ultimate Classic Cars. They
have a longer wheelbase to accommodate taller people while also
improving on road stability. The build on this car is very high
quality, so much so that Ultimate still uses it in a lot of their
brochures and advertising. It was completed in 2015 and has been
very well cared for since. The paint work is beautiful and done in
a Competition Orange with dual White racing stripes. They even
continued with the stripes on the underside of the hood which
really speaks to the level of detail. The car has dual nerf bars
mounted in front/back and all of the chrome and stainless is in
excellent condition throughout. It has the single full roll bar
which really helps the car to stand out from the rest because the
single driver roll bar is much more common. The windshield is in
perfect condition and the car has both the side wind deflectors and
the upper wind shades. The car has a great stance and sits on a set
of American Racing Shelby wheels with knock offs for the perfect
look. It has size 17x8 up front and 17 x 9 1/2 in rear with Nitto
tires.
You see some of these rolling around with modern 5.0 motors and we
aren't going to knock them but were very please to see a Prestige
Motors 383 stroker motor sitting under this cars hood. It is much
more in line with the Cobra history. The 351 Windsor block is a
perfect base for the Cobra drivetrain and it is fitted with
aluminum heads, Edelbrock intake, Holley 770 cfm street avenger
carburetor, Cool Flex hoses, Ford Racing plug wires, March
serpentine system, Speed Pro distributor, Scorpion roller rockers,
Comp Cam hydraulic rollers, JE pistons, Eagle rotating assembly,
427 Cobra valve covers and a Cobra oval air cleaner. The motor was
put on a dyno before installation and put out 470 hp and 460 torque
at the flywheel. It delivers a great sound with custom headers into
ceramic coated side pipes. Cooling is provided via the Afco
aluminum radiator with electric fans. The transmission is a Tremec
5 speed with a steel scatter shield. It shifts smoothly and sends
power back to the independent rear end with 3:73 Eaton gears and
Eaton bearings. This thing really runs down the road great and has
plenty of power. It is wired up with a Painless wiring harness and
has zero electrical issues. In front and rear are fully adjustable
QA1 coil overs so you can set it up for the perfect ride. The
brakes are from Wilwood and it has discs in front and rear.
Inside the car is done in all Black with a very cool carbon fiber
dash. It has dual high back bucket seats with 5 point racing style
harnesses. On the center console you will find the emergency brake
handle and the custom matching Cobra shifter. The dash is topped
off with VDO gauges and all of your various controls. In front of
the driver is a polished Ididit tilt column and a very nice
woodgrain Cobra steering wheel. Everything from the upholstery to
the custom fit carpet is in excellent condition. The trunk offers
plenty of additional storage space and is nicely carpeted as
well.
This is a very nice example of a Shelby Cobra and the build is very
high quality. If you have never had a chance to drive one of these
cars you are missing out! You couldn't build one for our asking
price so don't let this one slip away.
Make it yours for $57,500.00!
