Vehicle Description
Do you want more? While Corvettes restored to original
specification are bellwether cars in the collector hobby, sometimes
buyers want more in terms of power, drivability and
personalization. This award-winning Resto Mod was finished in 2017
and has been driven less than 100 test miles since. While C2's were
eventually offered with up to 427 cubic inches, this mid-year Sting
Ray kicks it up big with a rowdy 496 big block built by Bonefied
Customs in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The internals are stout, with an
Eagle crank and rods, a hydraulic-roller camshaft, Pro Comp
cylinder heads and dual Weber carburetors. All this resides beneath
a custom chrome air cleaner, and more brightwork abounds in the
engine bay. The headers and custom exhaust feed into Magnaflow
mufflers, which exit from the rear valances just below the split
rear bumper. A Gear Vendors 700R overdrive automatic transmission
pushes power to the pavement via massive 20x10-inch Billet
Specialties Sprint wheels through a 3.73:1 Positraction rear end.
The front wheels are 18x7-inch Sprints, and Diamondback redline
tires keep it planted. Precision Guesswork Race Cars in Hastings,
Michigan designed and built the custom frame. Among the numerous
upgrades are polished rear tubular A-arms, an upgraded Corvette
rear suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, and Wilwood
4-wheel disc brakes. The car's award-winning look comes from rich
black paint, the red stinger-scoop detail, and a killer Lipstick
Red leather interior that was custom-built by Steve Holcomb.
Steve's touches include Vintage Air and Classic Instruments gauges
in the dash. A Rock Valley stainless-steel gas tank keeps the fuel
clean and ready. This is a top tier professional build throughout.
The contributors to the project read like an automotive all-star
team. Bonefied Customs, Gear Vendors, Precision Guesswork, and
Steve Holcomb all bring specialized expertise to take this fabulous
Corvette right to the top. It's one thing to use the expression
"award-winning," it's quite another to bring home the gold. Even in
its short existence, the car was named a "Street Rodder" Editor's
Pick and took a Top 12 Pro's Pick at the Street Rod Nationals, plus
a Top 25 at the Shades of the Past show in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
The closer you look, the more you'll agree - this one's a winner.
