For Sale: 1949 Packard Super Eight in St. Louis, Missouri
After World War II, most manufacturers fulfilled the public's
desire for new automobiles with continuations of the pre-war body
designs. It was far too expensive to retool the equipment, so it
would be a couple of years for most companies to introduce new
models. Packard introduced a new smoother design, and more rounded
body in 1946, and streamlined it even further with a completely
fender-less look by 1948, referred to as the 22nd Series. Sales
were swift for Packard throughout all model lines for post-war
buyers, with some examples far rarer than others. Packard was
celebrating its 50th Anniversary of automobile manufacturing in
1949. Although, few changes were made to the popular 1948 series
which allowed for the continued sales success of the design. It was
reported that some remaining 1948 inventory was simply re-plated
with new serial numbers and sold as new "early 1949" stock. You can
tell these unique examples with their 9 between the model series
and unit number on their vehicle identification plates.
We are very excited to offer this fully restored, early 1949

example of just 5,879 produced for 1949! Bearing Model #2272, this
cosmetically restored sedan remains powered by its factory correct
327ci Straight 8 cylinder engine(G427659) producing 145 horsepower
mated to a 3-speed column-shifted manual transmission with
overdrive. It continues to start with ease and run as quiet as
Packard intended! Features include chrome wire spoke wheels with
American Classic 7.60-15 wide whitewall tires, Packard
amber-colored fog lamps, front & rear Master Bumper Guards with
protection rails, Cormorant hood ornament, windshield sun visor,

gas door paint protector, and passenger "Packard" vanity
mirror!
Showing only 55,472 miles, the body and chassis remain remarkably
solid showcasing a 2016 cosmetic restoration that has held up very
well. Even the underside of the factory 120" wheelbase chassis &
floor pans appear rather remarkable. It has been repainted with
results that are beginning to show slight aging but maintain a
smooth finish with plenty of luster! The gorgeous exterior chrome
shines brightly having been re-plated in the process. Inside, one
would also marvel at the level of care to restore the original
appeal of the factory upholstery materials, wood-painted trim
pieces, headliner, and chrome trimmed appointments! The steering
wheel appears to remain original.
This unit hails most recently out of Mobile, Alabama and will
include a reprinted operating manual & service manual, complete
spare tire & changing tools, and a clear Missouri title in our
