Vehicle Description
On the outside this is a useful long bed pickup; on the inside is
true vintage style; and under the hood is 429ci big block V8 power.
Oh yeah, this 1972 Ford F-100 lives up to its Sport Custom name
with its powerful V8 surprise!
The factory-correct Candyapple Red paint on this truck is that
great kind of color that was made legendary by cool cruising Fords
like the Mustang. So it can be taken as a subtle hint at what's
waiting for you under the hood. And the factory ribbed rockers,
upgraded dual exhaust tips, and dog dish wheel with wide radial
tires all add to the sleeper image. But really, the red paint just
gives off the look of a classic and solid pickup. It was resprayed
about 15 years ago to give it a proper luster with just the right
hint of aged-in honest appeal. And the full-length side trim helps
highlight the straightness of the panels, and the chrome has a
quality look. So most people will assume you just have a sturdy
classic truck. There's even liner paint in the long bed to show
this one is still handy.
The interior continues the vintage feeling. You can tell there has
been a solid investment here so that the seat, floor, door panels,
and dash can look good in black, but nothing feels out of place in
a 1970s machine. You even have provisions for air conditioning (it
will need servicing) with the classic under-dash unit. The radio
has been upgraded to a modern AM/FM digital tuner w/cassette but it
is a retro-style one to keep the vintage atmosphere. The dual-spoke
steering wheel has a great old-school truck feeling, and it gives
you a clear view to the factory gauges.
For all-out torque, it's hard to beat Ford's thundering 429 cubic
inch V8. It's larger than anything available in this generation
F-Series, but it's an easy fit here because these F-100s are always
ready to take the biggest engines in Ford's arsenal. Plus with a
four-barrel carburetor on top and a glasspack-style dual exhaust,
it runs with the kind of power and rumble you want in a big block
machine. A truck like this was made to drive, and so you have a
three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes,
and wide Cooper Cobra tires for a solid feeling out on the
road.
Complete with build receipts and photos before the restoration,
this is a cool truck with a sleeper-style personality. So if you
