Vehicle Description
The 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS has remained a favorite because
it's one of the meanest-looking coupes of its era. And this one
turns it up a notch with a sleeker style, four-wheel disc brakes,
and a more powerful crate V8 under the hood. Plus, everything from
overdrive to T-tops makes sure you still get the comfortable and
loaded feeling you expect from a proper Monte Carlo.
There's only about 300 miles on the full build, and this was a
labor of love. So to make sure this special one stands out a bit
more, it was painted gray. It's the perfect color to give it a
similar mean attitude that the black coupes had, but in a hue the
factory never offered. There's a great metallic element that loves
to pop in the sunshine, and you can tell this was part of a
thoughtful upgrade when the Boss 20-inch wheels also match. The
dark color makes for a great background for the red pieces. You get
the classic SS decal package, including the stripes that encircle
the car. This red also now draws added attention to the upgraded
cowl hood and the brake calipers peeking out from behind the
wheels.
The black interior was part of this restoration investment. It
included newer components and re-dying others. The result is both
very dark and very stylish. So you'll happily take the T-tops out
and show this off to the world. The front seat is a split bench
seat that can seat three across, but you'll likely just fold down
the armrest for bucket-like individuality. This has the right comfy
feeling you expect in a premium Monte Carlo, and your seat even
power adjusts. You have desirable factory features like power
windows, power locks, power steering, and provisions for air
conditioning (the factory controls are in place, but this one
currently forgoes the components for added power.) And the radio
has a cool look of stock, but it's actually a modern deck with USB
and Bluetooth. It connects to a fully upgraded stereo with a custom
subwoofer enclosure in the trunk. There's a Chevy sports steering
wheel on a tilt column, and that gives you a good view of the
Dakota Digital HDX gauge package that has a cool red glow.
These SS cars only received a 305 cubic-inch HO motor from
Chevrolet. That's a fine powerplant, but it's no match for the
350ci Blueprint crate V8 that now lives in this engine bay. It also
includes features like a Holley four-barrel carburetor and headers
feeding the dual exhaust. It also has the right supporting
components, like an Optima red top battery, a serpentine belt
system, and an aluminum radiator. It's an all-around sharp driver
with a four-wheel power disc brakes upgrade, newer suspension
components, adjustable coilovers, and nearly $1k spent on new
performance tires. And the four-speed automatic transmission
upgrade means you have overdrive to enjoy to this one for driving
near or far.
