Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1974 Volkswagen Type 181
Thing. The Thing was only sold in the US for two model years - 1973
and 1974; despite its relatively high price at the time, it was
quite popular and retains a loyal following.
This example is straight and solid with a good quality repaint in
Atlas White (cream) with appropriate "The Thing" side stripes. The
interior is no frills but offers nicely upholstered seats and a
roll bar along with Cocoa mats. A full soft top is fitted with
removable side curtains. Newer tires are on factory wheels with
chrome hubcaps.
Power comes from VW's 1.6 liter flat four that is shared with the
Beetle - it starts easily and runs well, and of course parts
availability is excellent. Recent service has included four new
shocks, timing and carburetor adjustment, rebuilt pedal assembly,
tie rods, wheels bearings, oil cooler and rear main seal, clutch
and cable, front brakes, steering coupler, speedo cable and
more.
It doesn't get much more fun than driving a Thing with the top
down. Recent service records and a reproduction owners manual are
included. For more information about this 1974 Volkswagen Thing for
sale at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call 404-692-5250.
