is one of 355 BN7 model, tri-carbureted Big Healeys made in 1962.
It was previously owned by Kurt Tanner of Tanner Restorations, an
Austin-Healey marque specialist. The car?s previous owner gave it a
ground-up, panels-off restoration in 2010. Kurt Tanner was born in
the United Kingdom and emigrated to the United States in 1977. At
the age of 8 he was interested in and rebuilt Honda 50cc and 70cc
mini-bikes. A mechanical hand-eye coordination was cultivated early
on in his life. At the age of 12 he purchased his first British
sports car, a restoration project 1959 Triumph TR-3A Roadster for
the princely sum of $300. This car started his interest in classic
European sports cars and eventually led to the purchase of several
Austin Healeys and Jaguar E-types as with the one you see here
today. Even almost 20 years after World War II, two-seat sports
cars from Europe captured the imagination of some American drivers,
regardless of whether they served in the military. While there had
been some domestic alternatives after the war, none captured the
nimble handling associated with British two-seaters. This car was
sold new in Odense, Denmark in June of 1961 and later brought into
the USA by Aerospace Research Inc. of North Carolina. Finished in
factory correct Ivory White, this example?s paint and trim are in
very good order overall. The bodywork is straight and solid, the
engine bay is extremely tidy, the car?s chrome bumpers are clean
and fit tightly to the body. There is a full-size spare tire behind
the driver and passenger seats, under a cover that matches the rest
of the interior. This two-seater rolls on radial tires, size
165/80R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a 60-spoke wire
wheel and the front wheels have disk brakes. The tires and wheels
are all in very good order. Under the hood is a 2.9L straight
six-cylinder OHV engine with three SU HS4 carburetors. This motor
is mated to a four-speed manual transmission with a 3.54:1 rear
end. Inside, the car?s red leather upholstery is in very good
order, as is the matching red carpet. A black, three-spoke steering
wheel faces the driver while the inner door panels are in good,
original order. The red instrument panel is in very good order and
there?s a optional Smith heater and optional speedometer in MPH. A
floor-mounted shifter rounds out the interior. The Austin-Healey
3000 is a British sports car built from 1959 to 1967. It is the
best known of the ?Big Healey? models. The car's bodywork was made
by Jensen Motors and the vehicles were assembled at BMC?s MG Works
in Abingdon, England, alongside the corporation's MG models. During
its production life, the car changed from an open sports car,
albeit with a child-transporting 2+2 option, to a sports
convertible. In 1963, 91.5 percent of all Austin-Healey 3000 cars
were exported, mostly to North America. The 3L 3000 was a highly
successful car, which won its class in many European rallies in its
heyday and is still raced in classic car competitions by
enthusiasts today. Competition to this Austin in 1962 included Alfa
Romeo?s 2600 Spider, Chevrolet?s Corvair Monza Spyder Convertible,
Daimler?s SP250 and Porsche?s 356 B/2000 GS Cabriolet. This car
presents a rare opportunity to acquire the lowest production
Austin-Healey roadster in its original shade of color. If you?re a
