Vehicle Description
1965 Chevrolet Chevelle
As the 60's brought in the Muscle Car era, Chevrolet needed
something to compete in the market. What they came up with
ultimately ended up being one of the most popular nameplates they
ever introduced, the Chevelle. These cars were based on GMs A-Body
platform and lasted 3 generations from 1964 to 1978. People were
craving for a much different look than the big cars of the 50s and
the Chevy II which was competing with the Falcon was starting to
lose some of its popularity. The answer was a mid sized muscle car
to fill the gap between the Chevy II and larger full size vehicles
of the time. Now you had a choice as a buyer and in 1964 the
Chevelle was the only all "new" car for the year. Everyone has
their favorite Chevelle bodystyle and the first gen like you see
here certainly has their share of fans. This clean '65 is very well
built car and was all professionally done. It has had a rotisserie
restoration and the combination of originality with some custom
touches results in one heck of a muscle car. The car is named
"Slick" and it has no problem living up to that name. The very
clean straight body is painted in a beautiful Jet GM Gloss Black
paint buried under 4 coats of clear. If you have been around the
classic or custom car world for any amount of time you can probably
recognize how difficult it is to get Black paint just right. Well
this one is right. It is really stunning in person and our pictures
likely don't do it justice. All of the chrome and stainless on the
car is in beautiful shape and it wears stock 396 Malibu style
emblems. The car has an excellent stance being dropped 2 inches via
custom fabricated spindles making it sit a bit lower than stock and
that is accentuated even further with the custom Boyd Coddington
(20 inch rear, 17 inch front) wheels that tuck nicely under the
fenders.
If it weren't for the custom wheels and more aggressive stance you
might not realize "Slick" has something special to offer over and
above a beautiful exterior. Well this hot rod is now sporting a
professionally built 454 V8 motor that utilizes all high end
components throughout. The motor has 9.5 to 1 compression, aluminum
heads, an agressive cam, chrome water pump, Black Chevrolet valve
covers, EnduraShine intake, and Edelbrock 800 cfm carb. It also
looks good too with the entire engine compartment being very
cleanly laid out and echos the clean Dark Black theme of the
exterior. It also pays homage to the original Z16 big blocks as the
air cleaner and body is labeled as a 396. A Griffin radiator sits
up front which along with the mechanical plus dual electric push
fans keeps this motor running cool even in the Texas heat. The
transmission is a 700R4 4 speed automatic transmission with 3,000
rpm stall that was professionally built by Hobart Performance. That
converts power back to the 12 bolt positrac rear end with 3:73
gears. Power steering has been added as well as after market 4
wheel disc brakes. Underneath the car looks good with nice solid
Black floors and a Silver powder coated frame.
Perfectly contrasting the Black exterior is the completely redone
Red interior. It utilizes all new upholstery with the seats having
a slightly lighter insert which looks very clean. The carpet,
headliner, seats, door panels, and dash all look great. To the
floor is mounted a B&M Ratcheting Megashifter which introduces
that cool vintage racing style while giving you the ability to move
through the gears as you please. The dash is very cleanly done
being painted a nice Red to match the upholstery. All of the trim
has been redone and looks good. Everything has the original style
layout but an auxiliary Sun Pro gauge pod has been added under the
dash. It is a radio delete car but does come with a radio as well
as kick panels with speakers should you want to add them.
Personally we don't know why anyone would rather listen to tunes
versus the perfect rumble from the aluminized exhaust into
Flowmaster mufflers. In front of the driver sits a custom Red
leather wrapped steering wheel. The trunk of the car is very
cleanly done and houses a spare as well as original jack.
This is a very clean car that was very well thought out and
designed. It has been featured in magazines and has no problem
winning awards. It has that complete muscle car style with the
drivability and excellent sound to back it up. It is one of the
coolest 1st gen Chevelles on the road.
