Vehicle Description
HIGHLIGHTS: Clean, 72k-mile, rare Collector Edition 1996 Corvette!
LT1 V8, auto transmission, great weekend driver!
BODY OVERVIEW: The exterior is in nice original condition; exactly
the condition one would expect for a well-maintained 72,000 mile
car that has seen some road use. Sitting on the special Collector's
Edition wheels, this Corvette looks right!
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW: This Corvette is finished in the correct
color Sebring Silver paint. There are some minor, normal signs of
wear as would be expected, but the condition is pleasantly
surprising for a Corvette of this vintage. It's hard to say if this
car has been repainted or not, but if it has been it was a job well
done. Though the body paint and targa-top paint are both in good
overall condition, the targa top itself does have some defects
along the edges as shown in the photos.
INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW: The interior is in condition
consistent with the condition of the rest of the car. There are
minimal defects and wear consistent with casual use. Additionally,
being a final-year C4 this car has perhaps the most refined
interior available in a C4 and is equipped with airbags. It is hard
to believe that this car was based on a 12 year old design! The
seats are comfortable and everything seems to work as it should.
While there is some mild creasing in the leather from use, this can
be expected of any car this age that has been driven. Nonetheless,
the interior is in impressive condition-even the plastics!
MECHANICAL OVERVIEW: Under the hood is a 5.7 liter LT-1 V8 hooked
up to a 4 speed 4L60 transmission. While the LT-4 was also an
available option, the LT-1 provides strong, reliable, and adequate
power. This is the perfect car for carefree cruising! The engine
runs smoothly and the car handles well. It drives just as you'd
expect a 72k-mile 1996 Corvette to!
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR: The overall condition and the
relative rarity combined with an affordable price point!
WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR: There's not much to dislike! If
you're looking for a 100% documented, show-winning car, this
probably isn't it. This one is one to be driven!
DOES IT NEED ANYTHING? The A/C could definitely use a recharge. The
compressor works and the blower works, but the air isn't cold.
Additionally, the tires are showing their age and should be
replaced.
WHAT BUYER IS LOOKING FOR THIS CAR? This is a great example of an
uncommon Corvette in largely original condition. With Grand Sport
prices soaring, this Collector's Edition is tremendous value for
the money. What buyer is looking for this car? To quote a 1996
MotorTrend article: "Just don't let us hear that you've got one of
these road weapons polybagged in an Arizona garage. This car was
made to be driven."
