Vehicle Description
1963 Ford 406 Dual Quad Galaxie 500 XL Sport Hardtop
Why This Car Is Special
Ford in the early 60's, saw the rise of drag-strips and circle
track racing and American auto manufacturers were finding out that
the more cubic inches and pure horsepower they could put is muscle
cars, the more they would win on the racetrack and the street,
hence the more of these cars they could sell.
If you are a big block Ford performance fan you will know and get
excited about this 1963 Ford 427 Dual Quad Galaxie 500 XL Sport
Hardtop we have here at Skyway Classics.
Per the Trim Tag, it was ordered as a 63C-2 dr. Hardtop Fastback in
E-Acapulco Blue with a #82-Blue Interior, and an X-352 V8
engine.
Our complete restored Ford now is powered by a very high horsepower
dual-quad 427 cubic inch big block Ford engine.
Mechanical
Our 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL has a big block 427 "Top Oiler" cubic
inch engine under the hood built by Southern Automotive Engines of
McDonough, Ga, topped by a twin 600 CFM 4-barrel performance
carburetor setup, Edelbrock Performer aluminum cylinder heads,
chrome Edelbrock dual quad 427 aluminum open air cleaner adorned
with 427 emblem and decal, chrome valve covers, aftermarket large
tube exhaust headers, Edelbrock aluminum water pump and chrome fuel
pump, power steering, power brakes, modified MSD Pro Billet
ignition and performance spark plug wires, and sits in a very
period correct clean, painted, and detailed engine compartment.
It is shifted by a Ford Top Loader 4-speed manual gearbox handles
the big block's horsepower and out the Ford 9" Positraction HD rear
end. The undercarriage shows the details like the dual exhaust, and
H.D. suspension as it rides on 5-spoke grey aftermarket era correct
mag wheels and raised white letter Firestone Firehawk performance
tires and stops great with custom front disk brakes.
Interior
The interior looks so good with the blue twin bucket seats and
matching rear full seat with both sporting a console in the middle,
the front housing a Hurst 4-speed shifter, blue carpets and 427
logo floor mats, chrome-accented matching blue door panels,
aftermarket black/chrome steering wheel, as well as the dash with
all the factory gauges, accessory gauges under the dash, AM/FM
retrofit receiver radio with a trunk mount CD stacker, Sunpro
tachometer, and even a clock.
Exterior
Our Ford is painted in Ford Factory Code E-Acapulco Blue and looks
as sinister as it did back in 1963, but the glossy blue paint is
surely worlds better than it was in 1963.
The body panels look straight and the doors close solid, the chrome
and stainless trim is shiny, and the factory 427 emblems on the
front fenders give warning about you thinking twice about pulling
up alongside it at a stop light.
Conclusion
This Acapulco Blue beauty 427 cubic inch 1963 Galaxie 500 XL 2dr we
have here at Skyway Classics is a reminder of how much of a muscle
car and terror on the street these were when they were one of the
fastest Fords available in its day.
It is restored and upgraded and looks mean even today. If you want
a big block big body Ford muscle car, this is the car you have been
waiting for.
