Vehicle Description
The 1965 Chevrolet Corvette continued on the success of the
mid-year String Ray with subtle changes. The hood vents were
removed, the trio of fender vents now effectively reduced engine
heat and the wheel covers were redesigned. It would be the final
year of the expensive L84- 327ci/375hp fuel-injected motor, with
heavier big block displacement engines aiming to be the cure for
more horsepower. Also new for 1965 were standard 4-wheel disc
brakes vastly improving the stopping power of America's favorite
sport car! It proved to be a successful year and Chevrolet sold
23,564 examples, of which only 8,186 were fastback coupes!
We are very excited to represent this 1965 Corvette Sting Ray
Coupe! Finished in Rally Red (originally F-F - Nassau Blue) over
Black Leather (originally STD - Black Vinyl). This Corvette retains
its number's matching L84 327ci/375 horsepower V8 engine along with
its Rochester Ram-Jet #7017380 fuel injection unit, original
double-hump heads, Winters aluminum intake, 7-ribbed aluminum valve
covers, ignition shielding, and correct exhaust manifolds. The
Muncie transmission code indicates it is a later 1969 M-21
close-ratio unit. The rear axle is the date-code correct 3.36:1
Posi-Traction.

Standard features on this Corvette include windshield washer, faux
wood steering wheel, power radio antenna, and carpeted floor mats.
It now possesses an upgraded AM/FM/Cassette radio in the stock
location along with cast aluminum knock-off wheels from Corvette
America with Uniroyal Tigerpaw 205/75R15 whitewall tires.
Previously a California car belonging to a San Jose collector from
1990-2015, it would later travel to Sarasota, Florida for a
comprehensive restoration. This included a complete detailing of
the engine compartment to include correct upper & lower GM radiator
hoses and tower clamps, heater hoses with pinch clamps, decals, and
more. The exterior was professionally refinished in Rally Red with
all new door and hood weather stripping installed as well as new
interior leather seats and floor carpeting to complete the cosmetic
restoration.
It shows only the most minimal signs of wear and continues to show
as a very fresh restoration. Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car
Museum & Sales, we had the complete fuel system drained with the
lines flushed. The Rochester fuel-injection unit was removed and
thoroughly cleaned, then received new pump seals, injection pump
shaft kit with Viton seal, and tuned to perfection! We also
replaced the distributor seals, spark plugs, fuel filter, engine
oil & filter, radiator coolant, and radiator cap. Further
improvements included new rear brake calipers & metallic pads,
windshield wiper system, new wiper blades, battery cable, and bled
the brake system for new fluid. This beautiful Fuelie now shows
just 85,720 miles on the odometer. It is remarkable road car that
should impress any Mid-year Corvette enthusiast with its
performance! We feel confident that the next owner will have a
blast driving the last of the fuel-injected Corvette Sting Rays
until throttle-body injection was introduced in 1982! This special
car represents one of just 771 high-performance Fuelie's built this
final year making them a certain blue chip future investment!
