This masterfully crafted red on red 1961 Corvette is now available
from the Maxmotive Pittsburgh Showroom. While retaining all the
classic character of the revered '61 Vette, this superior example
offers many new components and strategic modern upgrades that
contribute to an even better driving experience. Everything from
breakerless ignition to rack & pinion steering are subtly mixed in.
The project was completed in 2015 and all the work is documented
with an impressive stack of invoices. Under the hood is a
period-correct 327 small block V8, with a new Edelbrock carb and
Pertronix distributor, and it's coupled to a T-10 four speed manual
transmission. The body was painstakingly massaged, block sanded,
and painted in red with a contrasting white cove, and all the trim
and emblems replaced with new ones. The stock frame is used, but
power rack & pinion steering and power front disc brakes (with new
brake lines), in conjunction with a new set of Coker Classic wide
whitewall radials, improve the car's ride, directional stability
and road feel. The entire suspension system has been refreshed. The
interior looks new because, well, it is. A new, right-sized
steering wheel makes entry and exit easier while enhancing comfort
and feel. The tach is new, as are the clock, Wonderbar radio,
wiring harnesses, seat covers, carpeting, door panels, sun visors,
window cranks and even the gas pedal. That means everything looks
great and it all works. Yet, to demonstrate the appropriate
reverence for this true classic, the original spinner wheel covers
were retained to preserve the look and character of the car.
Corvette fans may wonder what became of the rest of the original
parts. Fear not! As a special bonus, three large bins are included
brimming with rare items like a swap meet treasure chest. You'll
find such valuables as the radio, trunk emblem, steering wheel,
tail lights, tach, clutch fan, and much more -- even a box of
bolts. This is a very special 1961 Chevrolet Corvette for the
meticulous driver. It's more than beautiful enough to show, but you
can drive it with confidence and enjoy a Corvette the way it was
meant to be enjoyed. See detailed photos at www.maxmotive.com.
