For Sale: 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL in Seattle, Washington

Vehicle Description

A pristine Signal Red 560 SL with Palomino leather interior.  This beauty has been given the love and care a true classic deserves.  Sold new to a dentist in Palos Verdes, California, this well-kept 560SL lived in Southern California until 2000, then came to Seattle to be pampered in our garage year-round. It’s been a spring and summer driver most of its life. 146,861 miles, about 8000/yr. in CA but fewer than 700/yr. since 2013. Excellent body with near flawless paint and nice brightwork. Very good original interior. The minor cosmetic flaws noted in the pictures can be expected given its age and mileage, even with conscientious ownership.

Mechanically strong with head-snapping power, a smooth-shifting 4-speed transmission, and a tight suspension. A true touring car, it’s incredibly stable at high speeds.  Good steering and brakes (new rear discs and rotors). With hard top, black soft top, M-B jack and tool kit, both original keys, all factory literature and a clean Carfax report. Factory and dealer extras:  front fog lights, automatic antenna, chrome wheels, and gold kit, and factory mats.  Weatherproof mats and car cover are a bonus. Documentation includes all service records, repair work by the current and previous owners, the Model 107 Service Manual (on disc), and a clean Washington title.

A new JVC audio system with Bluetooth replaced the factory radio. The original, non-functioning Becker is included for possible repair. In addition to routine maintenance, replacements include starter motor, AC compressor, climate control panel, front wheel bearings and tie rod. Full pre-sale inspection and service to correct issues and ensure top working condition.  Full disclosure:  front wheel speed sensors are defective, so no ABS (but excellent braking!). Only 3000 miles on the tires.

This classic Mercedes was the last of the famous W107 series of Mercedes-Benz sport coupes that started back in 1971 with the 350SL. The 560SL variant featured the fuel injected 5.6l V8 pushing an estimated 238hp and 287lb/ft of torque, which was more than Rolls Royce's were making at the time.  Its top-of-the-line, investment-quality reputation still holds today in collector markets. Plus, Signal Red is the perfect color to show off the classic lines of this beauty. Now is the time to pick up an SL from this generation as prices are rising. Truly the last of the breed (*real* Mercedes quality), it’s a fun car to drive that gets thumbs-up everywhere you go. No need to do anything other than turn the key and enjoy!

This gorgeous, straight 560SL is as lovely as the photos reflect.
