Vehicle Description
1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe
The Ford Deluxe was introduced in 1938 and was meant to bridge the
gap between the Standard model and the models being released by
Lincoln at the time. These high end Fords have a great look and
some of the greatest body lines the 40's decade ever saw. This was
a time where lots of chrome and big rounded fenders were still very
popular and would continue to be until we transitioned into the
shoebox style of vehicles. This '40 is a very cleanly built car and
has a lot of original old school style combined with some modern
upgrades. The body is in great condition and very straight. It is
all original 1940 Ford steel. The paint is a very beautiful tri
stage Pearl Red that has a very slick finish and has been cut &
polished to a beautiful shine. The car has the original front/rear
chrome bumpers with bumper guards, chrome grill and all of the
original style stainless trim. The glass is all in great shape and
it has the 2 piece windshield with electric wipers up front. It has
the original style driving lights and a drivers side chrome
spotlight but the spotlight is not currently hooked up. Between the
hood and front windshield is the original cowl vent which does
still operate. The car has a great stance and rides on painted to
match 15 inch wheels with chrome hubcaps and beauty rings. They are
wrapped with BF Goodrich wide white tires with a matching spare in
the trunk.
There are so many of these now sporting Chevy motors that it is
pretty cool to see this old Ford have a 1953 Mercury Flathead under
the hood. These flatheads are great motors and is more like the old
school style of hot rodding you would see back in the 50s. The
motor has a small cam, Edelbrock heads, Offenhauser intake, Mallory
dual point distributor, Accel hi-temp plug wires, high torque
starter, remote oil canister, and new Holley 390 4 barrel
carburetor with electric choke. It was rebuilt 2,000 miles ago and
the car has been converted to 12 volt. The new Walker radiator with
mechanical fan and electric auxiliary fan keeps it running cool and
has a polished overflow tank. The motor has a lot of nice
chrome/polished components and the valleys on the heads are painted
Red to match the body. From there power is sent through the
resurfaced flywheel and new clutch to the manual 3 speed
transmission. The car has the original rear end. A majority of the
undercarriage components are painted in Black. A new gas tank was
just installed under the rear and utilizes an electric fuel pump.
The suspension features tubular shocks and it has sway bars in
front and rear. The car has a great sound through dual exhaust with
Glasspack mufflers. It just received a fresh brake job and the car
is all ready to be driven and enjoyed.
Inside the car has been redone in Brown leather which is in
excellent condition. The seat, headliners and door panels have all
been redone. The bench seat has a tilting back rest to allow for a
storage area. The dash is painted to match the body and has a
mostly stock layout. In place of the original gauge cluster is a
new Classic Instruments set up that has a very classic clean
appearance and looks perfect in place of the original. It shows 200
miles on the odometer and the car does come with the original
cluster should you want to change it back. The column with 3 on the
speed shifter is painted like the dash and topped off with a new
Black steering wheel with working horn. It has an AM/FM/Cassette
player in the original style Beige trim which sits just over the
center chrome grill section. The trunk has plenty of storage space
and is mostly painted Black with Brown carpeting.
This is a really neat classic Ford with a great look. It is a nice
driver and is ready for a new home.
