For Sale: 1959 Austin-Healey 100-6 in Sonoma, California

Vehicle Description

1958 Austin Healey 100-6 BN6
2-Owner, Certified, Documented

Very special 1958 Austin Healey 100-6 BN6 for sale. This beautiful example was ordered by Private First Class Infantry Donald Altier while serving in Germany through A. Bruggman & Co Distributors. This treasured Healey was built in May of 1958, finished in Black over Colorado red, red interior, a black top, and equipped with wire wheels, overdrive, heater, a laminated windscreen, road speed tires, MPH speedometer, double vertical dip headlamps, and MM kit. This latter option was called the Mille Miglia kit, which was the full port cylinder head with a separate intake manifold and 117 BHP.   This outstanding example includes a plethora of documentation, a photo of its young original owner with the car decades ago, a Heritage Certificate signed by Anders Ditlev Clausager, a Sales brochure from German dealer, dealer brass ID tag, original title and plates, original purchase order form and certificate, manuals, books, original service voucher book in German from the original dealer, factory warranty and keys.  By November 5th of that same year, it was newly titled in Ohio as the serviceman returned home from duty with his new Austin-Healey. It stayed in his ownership until purchased by Austin-Healey restorer, Kurt Tanner who treated it to a ground-up, panels off restoration in 2006 with foreign car Specialties of Tallmadge, Ohio. It was then sold to its second owner in Northern California in 2011, who has owned it since. The car has traveled just 123,841 miles since new and under 7,000 miles since its restoration. It also includes photos of before, during, after the 2006 restoration.

Mechanicals are in excellent condition. During its restoration, it received engine and transmission work and rebuilt brakes, suspension, carburetors, etc. As a result, this vehicle runs, drives, shifts, and brakes very well, and the overdrive unit is quick-acting and crisp. Excellent oil pressure when hot, between 25 PSI at idle to 55 to 60 PSI while driving. It is fitted with a free flow Monza Style exhaust system with a healthy note.  Handling, shifting, and overall responsiveness are excellent.

The exterior is in beautiful condition; the body is exceptionally straight, with excellent gaps on all panels. The black paintwork is outstanding. The Colorado Red was added back by its current, 2nd owner. (You'll notice in the photo of the car with its original owner when new that the car was all black. It seems that they were only able to locate a black car with the red two-tone, so we assume that the dealer likely painted the red to black when he purchased). During its 2006 restoration, the vehicle received a new set of (5) 60-spoke silver-gray painted wire wheels with new knockoffs. The car still retains the original European-spec Lucas headlights. All Chrome is very good to excellent, being a mixture of new reproduction (bumpers & over-riders) or nice original. Underneath it has a nearly perfect frame that is extremely clean and straight. The chassis was completely repainted during restoration and has nice shiny paint with no evidence of corrosion.

The cockpit features its exceptionally nice, original, patina'd interior. Some front kick area carpets were replaced as needed. It has its original top and pad, fascia, and seats with original red leather, door panels, armrest, front and rear quarter panels, rear armacord shelf, tunnel cover carpet, shift knob, etc. The interior trim was carefully removed during its restoration, detailed, then reinstalled. It looks very impressive and fitting to the car, once you have learned of the car's history! Also, the steering wheel trafficator is original, as well as the side curtain set up and soft top and frame, although the rear plastic window has been carefully replaced. Overall, the weather equipment is in impressive condition and also includes an original side curtain bag and original tonneau cover.  A new wiring harness was fitted, and instruments, switches, and electrical equipment work fine. Gauges have a nice, clean, silver finish. The boot has been restored and includes its original jack and handle, tool kit, and knock-off hammer.

This Austin Healey is the most well-documented big Healey I have ever seen and represents an unrepeatable opportunity to purchase a vehicle with its unique ownership history that has been meticulously and carefully documented.  Contact Donn with questions, shipping, and financing options. 707-332-8331.
