underappreciated mini muscle car -Hagerty Media, October 2020
Hagerty went on to explain their view: Mopar built some of the
loudest, gaudiest, most cartoonish muscle cars of the '60s and
'70s. They were perfect. You couldn't ask more from a muscle car.
Consequently, muscle-car fans have driven the prices for the
hottest Mopars into the stratosphere. Plymouth 'Cudas and Road
Runner can demand six figures when equipped with the right
powertrain and color options. Plymouth Dusters, on the other hand,
are still attainable, even when equipped with desirable
powertrains. Sure, they didn't pack 440 or 426 power, but they also
weighed less than the B-body Road Runner and Satellite and made an
excellent platform for a street or strip car. Offered here is a
beautifully restored and respectfully upgraded 1974 Plymouth Duster
in two-tone gray/silver over black. Showing 23,272 miles on its
odometer, the car retains much of its factory-installed equipment,
with appropriate performance upgrades, not least of all, a
383-cubic-inch, four-barrel-carbureted Magnum V8 up front. The
car's exterior custom, two-tone (darker gray over silver) paint
beautifully highlights the Duster's overall design and in
particular, the slope of the roof and rear deck. Twin red
pinstripes are present wherever the two colors meet. The paint was
unquestionably applied by true professionals; the finish is
uniformly smooth and perfectly glossy across every single body
panel, including the added rear wing-spoiler (in matte black). An
added hood scoop in gloss black (with 383 Magnum emblems) directs
air to the engine bay. Chrome bumpers, body trim, door handles,
side mirror, and front grille are all in very-good-to-excellent
condition. An aftermarket pop-up sunroof has been incorporated in
the roof. Cragar®-style, 5-spoke chrome wheels are mounted with
Mickey Thompson SS® performance tires. Inside, the car's original
black interior is in place. High-back front bucket seats and the
rear bench seat are refreshed and upholstered in vertically pleated
and ventilated, black vinyl in near-perfect condition; there are no
rips or tears. Door trim is also in black vinyl with woodgrain
trim. The factory black padded dashboard with woodgrain trim
remains in place and in good overall condition. Added
instrumentation includes a steering-column-mounted AutoGage®
programmable tachometer (with shift light), and four auxiliary
engine-and-transmission-monitoring gauges added below the dash, a
look perfectly in keeping with modifications many original owners
would've made to their Dusters back in the day. Black factory
carpeting covers the cabin floors (with carpet mats in front), and
the automatic transmission's Hurst Pro-2® shifter is mounted on the
woodgrain-trimmed center console. Under the hood, the perfectly
clean and orderly engine bay is a Mopar fan's visual delight. A
chrome air cleaner cover sports 383 Four Barrel identification, and
valve covers are polished aluminum. Auxiliary components-including
MSD® ignition and an aluminum radiator-are properly installed;
hoses and red distributor wiring are neatly routed. Viewed from
below, the car's chassis is straight and undamaged. Massive
performance headers and custom, full-length dual exhaust system
components are focal points. The car's original build tag and VIN
plate remain factory-mounted. This extremely well executed,
performance-upgraded '74 Plymouth Duster is faithfully presented
