For Sale: 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I BT7 in Alpharetta, Georgia

Vehicle Description

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, MATCHING #, 1960 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MK I BT7, BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED, WELL DOCUMENTED AND BUILT TO SHOW AND GO!!!!!

If you have been searching for an outstanding example of a big Healey 3000 MK I that has lived a great life, has a rust free super straight body painted in its original color, retains its oirignal 2912 cc motor and is nicely equipped with overdrive, wire wheels, adjustable steering column etc., and has been restored to be a reliable and extremely fun car to drive then this Colorado Red BT7 might just be the one you have been waiting for. In fact, the current onwer did an extensive search before locating this beauty when he purchased it from an Austin Healey specialist 3 years ago. He and his wife enjoyed the car immensely putting abut 2500 miles on it. He decided he had his fun and was ready to move on to the next car on his bucket list so this amazing British Sports car is ready to go to it's new home....maybe yours? I am selling this Austin Healey on cnsignment and it is available for viewing in my showroom.  I can assist the new owner with a great rate on Enclosed Transport anywhere in the US. We also welcome overseas buyers.

According to the British Motor Industry Trust Certificate factory record acquired by the current owner, the car arrived at a US dealer in Chicago. Records show the car then spent much of its life in California through the 90's which makes sense given how rust free and rock solid the body and undercarriage are. Accrding to the Austin Healey specialist he acquired it from it received a very nice restration a little over 20 years ago. However, the paint and body still look fantastic and it is obvious the car was meticulously cared for by true enthusiasts. The current owner spent a significant amount of time and money improving and upgrading various aspects of the car to ensure it not only looked better but also performed amazingly and with as much reliability as possible. Everything he did was highly documented and all of the receipts are well organized and come with the car.

Hard to believe the paint work was done a little over 20 years ago as the Colorado Red paint looks outstanding. Body lines are excellent and we believe this car still retains its original body panels which are rock solid. No sign of accident damage or repair, a rare find on a 60 year old Briitsh Sports car and a testament to the care and climate it lived in. Bumpers, grille and chrome trim look excellent. Current owner replaced all 4 bumperetttes and retained the originals. Doors, hood, and trunk all line up very nicely. Emblems and badging look great. Rear reflectors were upgraded to LED taillights. This car is definitely nice enough to show at the local car shows but it is not a flalwess trailer queen.  Some very minor chips have been touched up and I noticed a few tiny dings in the chrome trim on the hood. Overall, this Big Healey stands tall and will draw crowds and thumbs up everywhere you go!

The next lucky owner should enjoy this British roadster with the top down as much as possible but it is also nice to know that it does have a full cnvertible top that is in excellent condtiion. The current owner refurbished the top bow, black convertible top, and the side curtains. He also added new plexiglass however the drivers side window frame des have a crack in it that can be repaired and is still functional. Side curtains are stored in a custom bag as well as all of the correct hardware. When the top is down the full tonneau looks great.

The matching Red leather interior in this BT7 4 seater is another highlight. The original interior was showing its age so the current owner completely restored it. He removed the seats and carpeting stripping the interior to the original floorpans which looked outstanding and he documented this in a photo book that is included. He then lined the floors with heat shield and insulatin befre installing brand new red carpeting. Seats were completely redone from the seat rails to seat foams and professionally covered in red leather. He opted not to do the seat piping in a contrasting color.  He also added correct 3 point shoulder belts from later year car for added safety. Dash pad was redone in the matching leather and dash knobs and gauges look great. The original Smiths Speedometer was sent out to be calibrated by an authorized US Smiths gauge expert. Steering wheel was updated to the correct spec wheel and it has adjustable column feature. All of the aluminum door trim, door seals and hardware were replaced. The heater box and core were restored as well as new air vents. He even had the crrect heater box plate engraved.Parking brake works with new cable and fuly adjusted. Lots of attention to detail inside this car and lots of money spent so that the future owner can simply get in and enjoy the ride!

Now that I have covered the beauty of this Big Healey lets not forget why there is a world wide following of dedicated enthusiasts of these cars. Don Healey knew what a sports car should be and knew how to achive that experience. The enlarged 2912 cc 3 litre allowed these cars to take full advantage in the 3 litre classes of International rallying and racing achieving great success. This makes for a truly spirited ride and I can honeslty say I was extremly impressed with the power and road manners of this particuar car. It perfroms beautifully through all the gears and does so with a tone from the dual tip exhaust that is uniquely british and puts a smile on the drivers face while accelrating through the gears. This car has its matching number original motor, Engine # 29D-RU-H10529. Believed to have its complete matching number drive train front to back. The 3.9:1 rear axle ratio also make this excellent long distance cruisier and the electric overdrive works wonderfully. The MK I also got front disc brakes for great stopping power and the brakes on this car have been completely redone. In fact there is a long list of mechanical maintenance and upgrades done to this Healey to insure it would be a safe and reliable driver for the owner and his wife. The partial list of these items includes the following items. Upgraded to Pertronix Electronic distributor, new brake, clutch and slave master cylinders, New front brakes and rear brakes servied and repainted. Aluminum Vallve Cover and oil pan, resurface seals and added correct cork gaskets, new fuel pump, new high end battery, custom Aluminum radiator with "Texas" fan with lower temp thermostat and new hoses allowing this car to run cool in the hottest of climates, replaced fuel sending unit, complete tune up and carb adjustments and new oil change. One of the biggest jobs was a complete, correct new wire harness done right!  Complete exhaust system was correctly redone from front to back and looks as pretty as it sounds. You will see a couple of small leaks when the car sits which is typical. Original restored wire wheels properly painted with correct knock offs and knock off hammer in the trunk with correct spare. Brand new set of period correct Michelin XAS radials on all 5 wheels. While I may have missed some small details, rest assured this car runs out super strong, is extremly reliable and is an absolute blast to drive!!! Every part that was purchased  was documented with receipts neatly organized in a binder. Many of the original parts were retained and come in 2 storage boxes along with a nice car cover.

Undercarriage is impressively rock solid and frame shows no sign of any accident damage. Original Floorpans are  not covered in any undercoating so you can see just how solid they are. This car was not built to be trailered...it was built to be driven and enjoyed!! The trunk is also very nice and completely solid. Matching spare wire wheel and tire along with knock off hammer and a nice updated tool set are included.

Priced to sell at $49,900 and I will listen to serious offers. Feel free to call me with any questions at 770-359-8400.
