Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this very original 1979 Pontiac
Trans Am for your consideration. The car is powered by its 6.6L V8
motor which is paired to an automatic transmission. The engine
fires right up, idles smooth, and pulls the car down the road with
a healthy roar. Like the motor, the transmission is mechanically
sound.
Finished in Starlight Black with the appropriate charcoal Firebird
decals, this Trans Am has a unique appearance that commands
attention. Of course, this Trans Am has the famous screaming
chicken on the hood along with the hood bulge. This example rides
on 15-inch Cragar S/S wheels finished in the polished alloy. The
black interior is in exceptional condition and has been left
untouched with the exception of an aftermarket Kenwood radio. The
metal trim surrounding the gauge cluster and on the center console
is also in good shape and adds a bit of pop to the interior.
Accompanying this example is the original window sticker and build
sheet.
Introduced in 1970, the second generation Firebird was only
available as a fastback coupe. Designed in tandem with the
Chevrolet Camaro, the Firebird was a popular halo car for the
Pontiac range. Government regulations started killing muscle cars
in the 1970's left and right. However, Pontiac kept producing the
Firebird Trans-Am with specs that were on the edge of legality,
with perhaps some fudging of some horsepower numbers. Of course,
Smokey and the Bandit made the late 70's models a highly desired
and iconic piece of cultural automotive history that still holds
mass appeal to this day.
