In 2003, Ford's Special Vehicle Team unleashed the Mustang Cobra, equipped a supercharged 4.6L DOHC V-8 engine dubbed "the Terminator." In 2004, it-and the SVT Cobra-was back. The potent powerplant featured a cast-iron block for extra strength and was fitted with a forged-steel crankshaft with forged Manley Performance Products H-beam connecting rods. It was topped with a Roots-type Eaton supercharger with a cast-aluminum case, machined aluminum internal roots and its own dedicated drive belt. Unleashed, it delivered 390 HP and 390 lb-ft of torque, breathing through 2.25-inch stainless steel exhaust tuned for a special sound. Each engine was hand built and inscribed with the names of the two-person assembly team on a special SVT plaque. The SVT Cobra was fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission and a lightweight aluminum flywheel and driveshaft with high-strength universal joints. On the outside, the SVT Cobra's received a different front fascia to allow for more airflow, a composite hood and a rear decklid with integrated spoiler with a built-in LED stop lamp.
