This well-documented, 2-Owner, and meticulously cared for 10th
Anniversary 79 Trans Am is an amazing numbers matching rust free
Colorado car. It is powered by a 400 V8, W72 performance package,
and 4-speed manual transmission. Ordered with every option Pontiac
offered, including air conditioning, rear window defrost, mirrored
T-tops, red tinted gauges, intermittent wipers, deluxe true leather
special embroidered seats, power windows & locks, power antenna,
power trunk release, tilt steering column, power steering, and the
WS6 option that included 4-wheel power disc brakes for the first
time on a Trans AM. The Factory 15x8 deep dish turbo styled wheels
look great. This Trans Am drives out as good as it looks.
It is one of only 1,817 to receive the Pontiac W72 400 rated at
220hp. It is the first year the Trans AM window sticker would
eclipse $10,000. On the heels of the Smokey & the Bandit phenomena
and the success GM experienced with the 1978 Special Edition
Corvette, Pontiac decided to celebrate the first decade of the
Trans AM with a 10th Anniversary Edition. If that wasn't enough,
this car also was the Pace Car used to lead 1979 Daytona 500, the
first NASCAR race televised in its entirety, which Richard Petty
won. It was also announced that this would be the last year the
Pontiac 400ci Engine. Dealers were quick to mark up these cars as
much as 100%, an additional $10,000, as collectors scrambled to
acquire one. So there is no shortage of reasons to consider
purchasing a Special Anniversary Edition Trans AM.
