Vehicle Description
1987 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Zora Arkus-Duntov, (December 25, 1909 - April 21, 1996), was a
Belgian-born American engineer whose work on the Chevrolet Corvette
earned him the nickname "Father of the Corvette". He is sometimes
erroneously referred to as the inventor of the Corvette, whereas
that title belongs to Harley Earl. He was also a successful racing
driver, taking class victories in 1954 and 1955 24 Heures du
Mans.
For consignment, a nice example of a 1987 convertible Corvette.
This one comes with the aux. hardtop, digital dash, and has plenty
of new parts recently put on..full speed ahead kids!
Exterior
Bright Red drapes the fiberglass panels that now have '91-'96 style
format and rear bumpers with side panels. No more urethane bumpers
to fade and crack! This Corvette comes with the lowest angle
windshield rake to this date. The body styling was basically a
preview to what was to come for the ZR1 model which was delayed
until 1990. Hidden headlights, (now upgraded to halogen), a body
matching bright red belt line molding, a beautiful and new frame
and canvas black convertible top that hides itself under a plastic
molded tonneau, and also, a very sexy removable hardtop for the
coupe-like driving experience with added safety. A rear spoiler
hangs just above the flat rear panel that houses the rounded corner
square taillights deeply inset into this panel. Also, the added
feature of the upswing doors or Lambo Doors, are now on for easy
access and egress. Standard turbine style 17-inch star pattern
alloy wheels are on all 4 corners and bringing up the rear are
chrome tipped exhaust pipes. Vroom Vroom!
Interior
Mesmerizing red carpet mats cover pristine black carpet that floods
the floors, and the back trunk area, and it is a deep, deep black,
in very good condition. Red inserts with black bolsters leather
buckets showing some patina with minor folds, and slight wear,
flank a red and black center console/storage unit. In back a
brushed stainless steel roll bar protects the heads of the
passengers when the soft top is up or down. The console rises to
the dash, also houses the 4-speed automatic transmission shifter,
climate control, AM/FM Cassette, and a data center with a screen to
display information regarding temperatures and other key components
of the engine. A digital display is seen in front of the leather
steering wheel for RPM/Speed and Oil Pressure/Volts and Fuel range.
Controls for power windows, power mirrors, and cruise control are
also noted. Some deep grained veneer that is highly polished is
noted covering all the flat dash front and console panels adding
beautiful warmth to this cold hearted Ford killer.
Drivetrain
A 350ci 240 horsepower, Tuned-Port fuel injected L98 V8 engine
rests within the engine bay which is very clean with an overall
nice patina. A 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission is attached to
the back of the mill. The rear axle has a 2.59 gear ratio.
Undercarriage
Very clean, well maintained, rust free, structurally sound,
undercoating intact on floor pans, no real leakage to speak of in
engine/transmission area, and frame is unscathed...what more could
one ask for!? How about 4-wheel power disc brakes that have been
drilled and slotted, and C4 suspension all around with new wheels
and tires.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up and ran beautifully throughout our test
ride. No known problems with any functions too. The new tires grab
like a tight grip on a baseball bat, and handling is like it's on
rails!
A very nice 4th gen example of a Corvette, plenty of conveniences,
and a documented plethora of new parts oil the body, interior and
some drivetrain additions. That snazzy tech digital dash, the warm
wood panels for the dash front and console, and stunning red
respray with red and black leather seats, all buttoned up and cared
for by this Corvette loving consigner.
