Launched to great anticipation in late 1966 and in direct
competition with Fords wildly successful Mustang, the Chevrolet
Camaro and Pontiac Firebird were last produced at GMs Ste. Therese,
Quebec assembly plant near Montreal, Canada. Unlike Chevys Camaro,
the Pontiac Firebird line offered a special, high-performance model
continuously throughout production the Trans Am. Delivering equal
parts performance and image, the Firebird Trans Am was highly
successful as Pontiacs halo model, outliving nearly all other
