Vehicle Description
This 1964 Ford Thunderbird might just be the most affordable way to
take home a comfortable cruiser that also turns heads the moment it
leaves the garage. In fact, with proper V8 power and a cool color
combo, this is a classic coupe that really has a lot of driving
appeal.
This T-bird has a true classic style. It mixes some of the
aggressive muscle car looks of the 1960s with the elegance you
demand of a Thunderbird. That's how you get a shark-like nose and
hood scoop artfully blended with the formal hardtop. Turquoise is
the factory-correct color, and it has been resprayed later in life
to give it a good metallic gloss in the sunshine. The chrome
bumpers are some of the best-integrated forms ever put on a
vehicle. The front has a swoopy design that frames the headlights
and surrounds the grille. In the rear, it's a bright end cap for
one of the most interesting trunk lines to ever hit the road. So
it's great to see it all looking so bright and complete. But
remember, this is a driver's car, so there's nothing too fancy to
prevent you from hitting the road on a whim. The wheels are even
upgraded to classic Cragar SS units for more of the muscle car
feel, and at the same time, allow you to fit better driving
tires.
The factory-correct turquoise looks nice against the exterior
color. The value price leaves room in your budget if you want to
upgrade, improve, and/or personalize. But this also currently goes
to the heart of a driver-quality car. From day one, it's quite
comfortable with everyone having a bucket seat. A center console
was standard equipment, and there was even an upgrade to R134a air
conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.) The
dual-spoke steering wheel gives you a terrific view of the full
gauge package. And the ribbon-style speedometer with pod-like
auxiliary readouts is pure 1960s cool.
The big 390 cubic-inch V8 with a four-barrel carburetor on top was
the only motor available in '64, and that's because it had the
horsepower and torque to keep everyone happy. This one looks like
it has been treated to the right maintenance over the years, and
the way it fires up and runs reaffirms it. The three-speed
automatic transmission knows how to smoothly handle the stout
power. And power steering and power brakes keep this an all-around
easy cruiser.
