Vehicle Description
2014 Cadillac ELR Coupe
You may ask what is a hybrid? Well quite simply, a hybrid combines
at least one electric motor with a gasoline engine to move the car,
and its system recaptures energy via regenerative braking.
Sometimes the electric motor does all the work, sometimes it's the
gas engine, and sometimes they work together. The result is less
gasoline burned and, therefore, better fuel economy. Adding
electric power can even boost performance in certain instances.
For consignment a hybrid which combines fuel efficiency and takes
the form of a luxurious sporty Cadillac. We give you the Cadillac
ELR coupe Extended Range Electric Vehicle from 2014. "Based on the
Converj concept car that debuted at the 2009 Detroit auto show, the
production ELR manages the neat trick of looking better than the
showpiece that inspired it. The ELR's aluminum-hooded nose tapers
down more dramatically than the Converj's, reducing the impression
of bulk." With less than 1,500 built it is rare to see one, and
with this particular car we are talking some low, low original
miles...850 to be exact. So, we are in rarefied air surrounded by
some flossy flossy.
Exterior
Looking much like a show car made real, we have the quintessential
Caddy grille but add a wild rake from the tip of its nose to the
hood line. Here the hood moves rearward, and we note a windscreen
that is as raked back as the grille helping this car obtain a low
drag co- efficient and save on gas and electric. All this
lightweight steel is bathed in Crystal Red Tint coat, and all is in
showroom condition! Utilizing the latest techno of the day, we see
LED tail and head lighting which are chiseled into each corner. A
high stubby V rear of the car offers up some nice trunk space and
continues the diamond cut look of luxury, very clean and
futuristic. Big 20-inch ultra-bright polished two-tone wheels are
wrapped by 245/40R20's on all 4 corners and these are looking very
low profile and sporty for this electric/hybrid sled.
Interior
A swing of the wide doors provides access to what could be the
inside of your WOPR supercomputer but in automobile form. Two tone
cashmere colored panels form the doors and house the power features
one would expect in a Caddy. Power windows, power locks, mirrors,
and even a push button door actuator. This also uses stitched
leather for the armrest because molded vinyl is so pedestrian.
Moving inside cashmere leather covers high back buckets which sit
in darker tan molded tubs. More power buttons for the seat
adjustments, and once you get them to where it's just right baby
bear, use the memory buttons on the door to save the settings. A
dark tan console races through these seats, has a glovebox and
houses the shift lever. Drive mode buttons are here also. As our
eye moves toward the dash, more stitched leather creates a V,
(seems like a recurring theme?), where it rolls gracefully upward
and has all digital push button climate controls, air flow options
and the volume controls for the stereo system. Just above this is a
display screen where the CUE system controls various functionality
of the interior settings and contains a navi system and back
camera. For 2014 it is impressive the displays and technology that
is available even Bluetooth connectivity for your phone is
available. The dash is all screen digital displays, and it will
take a bit to learn to navigate through the controls, but once you
have the ah ha moment, it's fairly intuitive. Above is a ceiling
console with lighting, OnStar emergency button, and programmable
garage door remote controls. Like new carpeting covers the floors,
and in back two more luxurious buckets have their own console
running past them and seamlessly rolling upward to form the rear
sill. Noted, the steering wheel has buttons aplenty to do
everything but scratch your back with a touch of your thumb.
Drivetrain
Electric drive mode with a backup 1.4 liter 4-cylinder gasoline
engine which produces electric for the motor, and can also be run
in hybrid (combo) mode. The 1.4 has EFI, and a planetary gearbox
glides you down the road effortlessly. The driver can choose to run
on all electric and you will be amazed as to the torque produced
with this mode. Total range for the car is 450-500 miles which is
30-35 on electric and 400-475 on gasoline.
Undercarriage
All clean and green, (well black basically), with McPherson front
strut suspension, Watts linkage and sturdy shocks, and direct drive
provide the ride and forward motion. Power disc regenerative brakes
are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
I'll call it the torque thriller, as it has a surprising amount of
quick acceleration. Electric power steering is spot on and no slop,
and handling is very nice.
With super low miles, (just barely enough to go through 2 tank
fulls of gas), chiseled design and more technology than Dexter's
lab, we have a shower made reality, and GM's stab at the future
from 2014. It is like putting 4 big wheels with low profile tires
on your iPad!
