About the Porsche GT3RS 4.0:
The Porsche 911 GT3 is a high-performance homologation model of the
Porsche 911 sports car. It is a line of high-performance models,
which began with the 1973 911 Carrera RS.
The GT3 has had a successful racing career in the one-make national
and regional Porsche Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge series, as
well as the international Porsche Supercup supporting the FIA
Formula 1 World Championship.
The 911 GT3 RS 4.0, launched in 2011, was the final evolution of
the 997 GT3 and featured a 4.0 liter flat-six engine, the largest
engine offered in a street-legal 911.
The engine itself uses the crankshaft from the RSR with increased
stroke dimensions from 76.4 mm to 80.4 mm. This change increased
the power output to 500 PS at 8,250 rpm and 339 lbfft of torque at
5,750 rpm. Chassis development was influenced by the GT2 RS and
uses parts from other RS 911s.
Front dive planes give additional downforce up front. The car
weighs in at 2,998 lbs giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 365HP
per ton. Only 600 cars were built for the world and 141 cars for
the US Market. The engine is one of the most powerful six-cylinder
naturally aspirated engines in any production car with a 123.25 HP
per liter output.
Performance figures include 0-60 MPH acceleration time of 3.5
seconds and a top speed of 193 mph. The lap time on the Nrburgring
Nordschleife is 7 minutes and 27 seconds.
The car was offered in Basalt Black, Carrera White, Paint to Sample
Non Metallic and Paint to Sample Metallic colors. A total of 141
units were sold in the United States and 16 units in Canada.
Motor Trend along with several other publications, spent some time
with several Porsche 911 GT cars. And it ranked the GT3 RS 4.0 as
the best of them, even over the 911 R. The steering is "perfect,"
the transmission is extremely satisfying to shift, the brakes are
"unflappable," and there's that "masterpiece of a screaming
engine."
