Vehicle Description
Very well-preserved final year Bullet Bird in a striking color of
Sahara Rose over Light Rose interior! Terrific option list to
include factory air conditioning, power steering & brakes, power
windows, power driver seat, spinner-style hubcaps, tilt-away
column, and more! A terrific driver for tons of summer
cruising!
Ford Motor Company developed a rather consistent 3-year transition
pattern with its Thunderbird model during the early generations of
development. They would introduce the Third Generation of T-Bird in
1961, becoming affectionately referred to as the "Bullet Birds" due
to their sharp angled front nose to create a bullet-like side
appearance. A beautiful character trait of these T-Birds is the
chrome trim that extends the length of the car from the front
bumper to the subtle rear tail fin, incorporating the door handles
on each side so discretely. The large round taillights at the rear
appear as airplane turbine thrusters keeping with the
aviation-inspired theme common in 1960's automotive design as space
exploration became all the rage with the formation of NASA in 1958.
The Bullet Bird was gorgeous with a long, sleek profile and
powerful 390ci V8 under the hood as standard equipment!
We are very excited to offer this 1963 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop
finished in code correct L-Sahara Rose over interior code 51- Light
Rose vinyl! Ford only offered this attractive color to Thunderbird
buyers making it uniquely special for T-Bird collectors today.
Powered by its original 390ci V8 producing a robust 300 horsepower
and Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission! The option list
was long on this example with the original owner checking off
several comfort & convenience features. These include factory
Selectair air conditioning, power windows, all tinted window glass,
power 4-way driver's seat, Tilt-Away steering column, remote
outside mirror, Day/Night interior mirror, AM pushbutton radio, 1"
whitewall tires, full wheel covers with simulated knock-off hubs,
and rear fender skirts! Power steering and power brakes came as
standard equipment.
Our Thunderbird is showing just 49,793 miles on the odometer, and
based on the incredible presentation could certainly be original,
although we do not have enough supporting documentation to make an
official mileage claim. The exterior paint is incredibly striking
as it was already professionally refinished in the recent past. The
interior shows as being all original and survives beautifully! All
interior power features, safety features, and air conditioning are
in working order. We found only the dash clock and original AM
radio to be non-functional. Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car
Museum we replaced the battery, front & rear brake cylinders, wheel
seals, rear brake hose, installed a new fuel filter & tuned the
carburetor, serviced the a/c system, installed a new idler arm
bushing, transmission mount bushing, and changed the engine oil &
filter.
This is a very unique T-Bird color combination, and one that is
very well appointed with factory options! It will not likely last
long and we encourage any interested buyer to call right away to
schedule a viewing appointment or to visit about purchase options.
Thanks for looking!
