For Sale: 1982 Mercury Lynx in Lithia Springs, Georgia
This 1982 Mercury Lynx LN7 is a low mileage and fantastically
preserved coupe that also has a terrific backstory. It's the highly
documented and loaded rare coupe that delivers a ton of classic car
fun...all for an affordable price.
The story that we are told on this one is that Mrs. Bromberg of New
England accompanied her husband to the Chicago Auto Show in 1981.
Mercury was there debuting the upcoming 1982 LN7 sports coupe. It
was a truly hot item for them because this was being talked about
as the first personal two-seater since the original Thunderbird.
Mercury even ran a promotion. They filled a coupe with spark plugs,
and the closest guess to how many would receive a new LN7. Mrs.
Bromberg was the winner, and so she got to fully spec out the car
she wanted. And because she was in New England, she even ordered it
from the famous Tasca dealer group (it gives this Mercury a hint of
muscle car connection.) Mrs. Bromberg checked all the big boxes on
the options list, including the TRX phone dial wheels that give
this Mercury a hint of classic Porsche style. It also seems that
she coveted the prize, and mainly only drove the grandkids for ice
cream in her Mercury. It was even stored for the harsh New England
winters. And when Mrs. Bromberg sold her coupe many years later, it
went to an LN7 collector. So this one remains highly original in
every aspect, right down to the Bright Red paint.
The idea of the LN7 was to deliver a Mercury-level of individual
luxury, and so this grand prize has some terrific features inside.
It includes options like bucket seats, an AM/FM/cassette stereo,
full gauges w/tach, cruise control, a three-speed automatic
transmission, and a sunroof. There are even provisions for factory
air conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.) It's
all presented with the kind of high-level preservation you'd
expected in a cherished car that has averaged well under 500 miles
annually.
The engine bay has the same time capsule quality as the rest of the
car. So it's hard to believe that this 1.6-liter motor is anything
but the original powerhouse. This motor fires up readily, and it
runs with the gusto of a well-respected machine. The motor may not
seem very large today, but it was a product of its time. A personal
car like the LN7 was made to be more sprightly and fun. The power
is over the front wheels in this front-wheel-drive machine, and so
the traction is always good. The fully-independent suspension makes
it quite nimble, and you even have power brakes with discs up
front.
A cherished and special car like this comes with excellent
documentation to fully tell its story. This includes the dealer
invoice, original warranty card, owner's manual, title
documentation, maintenance records, and a Marti Report. The LN7 was
only in production for two years, and so it will be hard to find a
better-preserved example with a better history. So don't miss your
chance, call today!
