Vehicle Description
1987 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Mention the name Corvette and immediately someone in the
conversation will perk up and pay attention. It's a timeless
American sports car and has gone through several personality
changes. From the 2-seat coupe when first introduced, to a fast
50's classic, to the Stingray versions of the 1960's and early
1970's. And now all sleek and trimmed with lots of power, no more
chrome, retaining the hidden headlights and a much lower profile
for the 80's.
For consignment, we now present, from way back in 1987, a morsel of
Corvette history in the flesh, a Chevrolet Corvette! Drum roll
please...and a Convertible!!! Applause. We now return you to your
regularly scheduled description.
Exterior
All clean Bright Red painted fiberglass is seen on this exterior in
shiny and unmarred fiberglass condition. This year's version has
hidden headlights, a black trim band around the entire middle of
the car, some shark gills in the front quarters black trimmings for
handles and windows, and a flat back and bumper with the
quintessential round 4 tail lights. A white canvas convertible top
is on and it presents in very nice condition with a clear rear
plastic window, and it adds some nice contrast to the red, but
don't forget about the white hardtop that also comes with the car.
17-inch turbine polished styled wheels are on all 4 corners wrapped
with good condition all season rubber. And now we will pause for a
commercial break..."See the USA in your Chevrolet!"
Interior
Red leather buckets grace the inside of this Vette and have a
futuristic spaceship seat high back and tufted horizontal panel
design. Power adjustments are located conveniently within the outer
bolster of the two chairs, and a black plastic framing covers the
backs of the seats. Digital driver information system is seen on
the square design dash, as well as the 4-speed automatic
transmission shifter in the black framed console that sports a red
glovebox between the buckets. Power windows, power steering and a
key fob remote access button will get you into the rear storage
area that has enough room to haul "stuff". Carpeting appears in
good condition and is a deep red with no staining. Door panels are
molded vinyl and contain a central black actuator panel with locks
and a courtesy light, and still. utilizing the square and rectangle
design. The steering wheel is showing in black, is original to this
car, and is wrapped in a leather covering. The original green LED
radio is in and it has AM/FM/Cassette capabilities. Directly above
this is an information panel that will illuminate any potential
problems on this screen when they arise. The top works flawlessly,
and folds neatly into a rear fiberglass cowling all seamlessly.
Here that Heartbeat? It's America!
Drivetrain
A 350ci electronic fuel injected V8 can be viewed within an
original, unrestored engine bay with the flip of the hood. Bolted
on the back is the 4-speed automatic 700R4 transmission. Keeping
everything cool is an all electric fan cooling system. On the back
is a 2.73 rear axle.
Undercarriage
Reasonably clean and rust free all good underneath with an overall
light undercoating which has patina forming nicely. X-bracing shows
and ties the car together for extra stiffening. Suspension includes
an aluminum forged mono leaf spring and is seen on the front and
rear. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
This engine will crank but sadly it will not start. The radio works
but does not have much volume.
Overall a fairly clean Corvette in red, with a white convertible
top, white hardtop, and red leather interior. It does not start,
but it's all there ready to be loved by a new owner who wants to
carve backroad curves and feel the wind in their hair. Chevrolet's
MVP. Just wrench it to get her running.
