The classic bug is a rolling icon that loves to mix easy ownership
with classic car fun. This 1972 Volkswagen Beetle is a perfect
example of that total feeling.
The classic white Beetle just seems to get your mind going. After
all, it seems to really drive home the clean VW design that was
simple, elegant, and absolutely distinct. And on the other side of
the spectrum, we bet there are a few of you thinking about adding
some racing stripes for your own Herbie replica. That's part of the
fun that's at the heart of Beetle ownership. Everyone has an
individual attraction, but we are all united under a seemingly
timeless design. So this has a nice stock style where you may
choose to brighten up the paint for a weekend project, or this may
be the base for your Volksrod project - it's all possible with a
well-built car that has a huge community behind it.
The blue interior is a distinctive touch, but at its heart remains
the look of classic simplicity and sturdiness. This is the later
era for high-back bucket seats, and so you get the vintage
button-top presentation mixed with a style built for all-day
comfort. There are some handy upgrades, like the cup holder center
console. But overall this remains a faithful classic, right down to
the Wolfsburg crest on the steering wheel.
In the rear is the era-correct 1600cc motor. This was the largest
of the series, and so it's always desirable to have. Part of the
extensive VW community includes a long list of easy to install
components that increase the power of this hardy motor. But right
now, this is a strong-running flat-four that seems to love to show
off a very stock style that reminds us of the engineering behind
these VWs. The air-cooled motor has a hypnotic tune, and more
importantly, no radiator to boil over. The powerhouse is placed
over the driving wheels for better traction and there is no
driveshaft running the length of the car for a power loss. So these
are simple to fix and upgrade, but they also are a marvel of a
smart design. And everything from the control of the four-speed
manual transmission to the grip of more modern tires gives you the
full confidence to enjoy this Bug to the fullest.
Complete with owner's manual, this is the affordable and fun
classic that's looking for a new garage to call its home. Call
