Launched with demand spurred by a Saturday Evening Post Advertisement published June 19, 1909 Hudson Motor Car Company enjoyed the most-successful new entry to date into America's automotive industry. The Hudson Twenty, which was Hudson's first car, was introduced in 1909. Hudson was named after investor joseph L. Hudson, Proprietor of Detroit's Hudson The Twenty, which was also known as the Model 20, was offered in roadster, open roadster, and tourer body styles. Power for the Twenty came from a 198 cid inline four-cylinder engine that produced 22.5 bhp.
This Striking Model 20 Open Roadster carries excellent history, having been purchased in 1910 by John W. Reed of Warren, Illinois from William J. Maurer, the authorized Hudson dealer in nearby Freeport. In 1927-1928, Mr. A.H. Burrows, also of Warren, acquired the Hudson From Mr. Reed at some 3,000 indicated mile. Mr. Burrows sparingly enjoyed the Hudson and following storage from 1946 to 1952, it was returned to service with a Repaint, replacement water pump, New Soft top, and a replacement headlamp. Subsequent owners include the Harrah Collection and then the Imperial Palace Collection, where it was restored and displayed until sold in 1988 to Texas collector Sam Vaughan. In 1990, the Hostetlers acquired the Model 20 from Mr. Vaughan's estate. Numerous showings include First class at the 2009 Shipshewana May-fest Parade, Feature car status at the 2009 Hudson Homecoming, the Palmetto Award at the 2009 Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance. As originally advertised, it remains quite stylish and presents a unique opportunity to acquire a foundational example from the early years of Hudson Motor Car Company.
