For Sale: 1970 Oldsmobile 442 in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

Wow, this one checks the boxes! A real 442 with matching #s 455 motor and a W-30 package was added. Extremely desirable factory colors and a rare 4-speed. It was body off frame restored and looks beautiful. I drove it home, it functions just as well.

EXTERIOR: The Lamborghini of muscle cars with its scoops, wing and bold stripes. This one has paint code 28 A, which is Twilite blue with a white top. This is an extremely desirable color combination. Very impressive body and it appears to be all original. The front fenders are 1970 only, bottom of the doors are clean, the quarter panels have not been replaced. The hood is correct with a steel structure and fiberglass scoops. The spacing of the emblems are correct which indicates original metal. It is laser beam straight. All the gaps are excellent, the doors shut like new. The factory metal flake is laid out evenly and the clear coat is polished out to a smooth and glossy finish. The W-30 stripes are painted on correctly. It has a rear spoiler. The white vinyl roof looks pretty new. Overall the chrome and trim is not new but shiny and straight. The SS-1 wheels are excellent with BFG tires. It has correct T-3 headlights. The weatherstrips were replaced. Glass is original.

INTERIOR: The pearl white looks amazing against the blue paint. The seats have been reupholstered, door panels have been replaced. Carpets were replaced, 442 embroidered floor mats. The dash area is in really good condition. I don't see any cracks, it has the original AM radio. It also has rally pack gauges and tick tock tachometer with new instrument bezel. It has an optional sport wheel. The armrests, headliner and headrests are not new but good.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It has the VIN number matching 455 motor. It's been upgraded with the W-30 aluminum intake, ram air and red fender wells. It runs strong, the 4-speed cars have a hotter cam and therefore power brakes were not available (not enough vacuum for the booster). The air cleaner assembly is complete and correct. It runs cool with upgraded aluminium water pump and radiator. The bottom of the hood has the "chicken wire ". The metal surfaces are smooth with very nicely painted finishes. The cowl tag is attached with correct codes for these colors in and out.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It is complete with a reproduction Firestone Wide Oval tire that's never been used on a painted rim for a spare. New correct Oldsmobile mat, reproduction decals and weatherstrip. Clean original metal that's been spatter painted. I don't see any seams in the quarter panels, I believe they are original. The jamb and bottom of the trunk lid are painted glossy. When I look way up in there I could see the original blue paint which verifys this was always a Twilight blue car.

UNDERSIDE: The body has been off the frame. The chassis is a smooth satin black finish. The floors appear to be real solid with a light covering of black undercoat. The front end was completely rebuilt and detailed. It was upgraded with gas shocks. It has the Rally suspension which includes front and rear sway bars and boxed control arms in back. The rear suspension was given new bushings and shocks. Looking up at the motor it is spotless. It looks like the fuel pump, oil filter and starter have been replaced. The bellhousing and Muncie 4-speed are also exceptionally clean. It has a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. In back it has an original SH code 12 bolt rear end with 3.42 posi gears which were only available in non a/c cars. It has a W-27 aluminum finned cover. The fuel system was replaced including the tank, straps and sending unit. The brakes were redone, it has disc in front. Brake lines were replaced, e-brake assembly is hooked up. The dual exhaust system is clean, it has the trumpet style tips going out through the rear bumper.

Don't underestimate how rare and desirable the 4-speed and the colors are on this car. Why would you want a Chevelle after checking out this 442?
