The Buick Special was Buick's entry level full-sized automobile. All Buicks underwent a full restyling in 1939 with a more enclosed nose and a wider grille. The wheel base was also 2" shorter. The 8-cylinder 248 cu. in. Engine was also new. Metal rocker panels were offered as an option to traditional running boards, rear turn signals became standard equipment and push-button tuned radios were introduced.
