For Sale: 1956 Chevrolet Panel Truck in Hebron, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

1956 Chevrolet/Grumman-Olson Kurbside Camper Conversion

Traveling through the northern reaches of New England, the current owner of this wonderful, classic camper, a restaurant and bar owner as well, saw this truck sitting out next to a home with a For Sale sign on it. He absolutely loved the classic lines and style of this all aluminum step van. He stopped in and ended buying the truck then and there. It was in rough shape. It had so much paint on it, you could hardly see the rivets.

He saw the beauty though and started in on a restoration/freshening of this step van by stripping off all the old paint by hand, inside and out.

Once the body was stripped, he wanted to make sure that the truck would run and drive so a low mileage 327 Chevy V8 along with a Muncie 4 speed, were swapped in. (Reportedly with less than 40K miles) All new brakes and shocks were installed, bushings greased, rear end serviced and new 16" 8 lug wheels wrapped with Firestone 265/75 R16 Transforce ATs were installed.

At this point he had the entire truck painted in a metallic silver and black combo. The roof was also hit with flexible RV roof paint before being sprayed in black.

He then started rewiring the entire truck and replaced all the old lights with HD LED units. All the blinkers, headlights, running lights.

With the van now running, driving and well lit, he went after the interior. It was painted in a spray on bed liner and then he cleaned up the wood paneling and applied new varnish.

The old propane fridge was replaced by a new electric Frigidaire unit, running 110.

The truck came already equipped with a fresh water tank, full 110 hook ups and 110 plugs both inside and out. He built the rear rack and installed an Arksen diamond plate tool box to hold the brand new Honda generator, connectors and new propane hook ups.

A brand new porta pottie was set in place too.

The old seats were replaced with 2002 VW Bug buckets and provide a much nicer seat than the stock seats. Although this camper will sleep 4, there are only two seats, so this will appeal mostly to those couples looking to get away together in classic style.

With the pandemic still affecting many people, this vintage camper is a very cool escape.

While this is ready to be used and enjoyed, there are some finishing touches that could be taken care of, as the owner needed to focus his energy on other life issues when Covid hit and he had to close his bar and restaurant. The replacement corner glass comes with the truck.

Campers, trailers and even tents have increased exponentially in recent times due to Covid and the asking price on this Chevrolet/Grumman-Olson Kurbside Camper conversion is $27,000.

Thank you for the interest.
