Vehicle Description
The iconic hardtop profile and a great two-tone look inside and out
instantly attract you to this 1955 Oldsmobile 98. But it also
doesn't take much to recognize that this has a lot more going for
it than pure classic car appeal. There's a smoother style on the
outside, a loaded A/C interior, an overdrive transmission, and
proper small block V8 power that all make this vintage Olds a
terrific cruiser in modern times, too.
The range-topping Oldsmobile 98 was built on a longer wheelbase,
and so it stretches out some of the most iconic elements around. It
starts with the two-tone where the white in the front has a long
streak into the turquoise rear section. And the bright white also
shows off the desirable Holiday hardtop. And because the paint has
a good gloss, it's great to see it bordered by so much shining
brightwork. And speaking of the brightwork, this design really used
it to the fullest. This has the usual wraparound bumpers that love
to hug the form, but these Oldsmobiles also had intricate details.
You see it everywhere from the rocket-like trim on the tailfins, to
the cool way the Olds letters almost look like the Hollywood sign
on top of the grille. And while these are terrific classic details,
this one also hints at being something more. You have a modern look
with halo headlights, custom 15-inch chrome wheels, wide dual
exhaust tips, and the emblems shaved on the hood & trunk.
The Holiday Hardtop coupe style means that people have a clear view
of the interior, so it's quite nice to see that the turquoise and
white wow factor continues on the inside. There's plenty of room
for family and friends, and the updated seating means a plush comfy
feeling. And you even have the best features to keep them all
happy, like a retro-style AM/FM digital tuner stereo and a cup
holder center console. But the driver is always going to be the
priority in this Olds. The steering wheel has been upgraded to a
wood and chrome sports unit. It's mounted on a tilt column so you
get a clear view to the full gauge package and upgraded tach. This
coupe has the desirable power windows feature. So you never have to
leave the driver's seat to show off the pillarless hardtop profile.
And the air conditioning is blowing nice and cold, so feel free to
enjoy this well into the summertime.
Under the hood is a tidy upgrade that you'll love showing off. The
smooth inner walls funnel your attention to the 350 cubic-inch V8
heart. It's built correctly with upgrades like an Edelbrock AVS2
four-barrel carburetor w/electric choke, an Edelbrock Performer RPM
intake, bright fabricated valve covers, and a mild cam for added
performance and a sweet tune out of the dual exhaust. You've also
got nice supporting components, like an Accel distributor, steel
braided coolant lines, and an aluminum radiator with electric fan.
It's a powerhouse that loves to fire-up readily and hit the road.
In fact, they recently spent $2k within the last few years
upgrading this to a four-speed automatic transmission
w/highway-friendly overdrive. There's also power steering, power
brakes, front discs, and a modern tread behind those classic
whitewalls. So you know this was a car that was made to be an easy
cruiser.
