to drive an adult go-kart, something that?ll go like stink and
carve corners like a skateboard? You?re in luck, we have such a
specimen at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, a 2006 Lotus ?lise Series 2
Roadster. Tipping the scales between 1,800 and 2,000 pounds, this
low, lithe roller skate will surprise you and other drivers at fast
it is. The Elise was named after Elisa Artioli, the granddaughter
of Romano Artioli who was chairman of Lotus and Bugatti at the time
of the car's launch. Made at Lotus? Hethel, Norfolk, England
factory, this example is finished in Ardent Red with black trim.
The paint and trim are in overall excellent condition, the bodywork
is straight and solid and the engine bay is extremely tidy. The
car?s body-colored bumpers are integrated into its fiberglass
bodyshell, which rides atop its bonded extruded aluminum chassis
that provides a rigid platform for the suspension, while keeping
weight and production costs to a minimum. This Lotus rides on
Yokohama radials, size 175/55R16 up front and size 225/45R17 in
back. Each tire is mounted on a black, factory alloy wheel. The
tires and wheels are all in very good order. Updates for 2006
models included sport LED taillights, drive-by-wire throttle, with
an updated engine control unit (ECU), improved fuel consumption and
more comfortable ProBax seats. Mounted in the traditional
mid-engine location is an all-aluminum 1.8L DOHC 16-valve
four-cylinder engine from Toyota (code 2ZZ-GE) with a
Yamaha-designed twin-cam head that offered variable valve timing on
both intake and exhaust valvetrain (VVTL-i). Unique to the ZZ
family, the 2ZZ-GE utilizes a dual camshaft profile system (the ?L?
in VVTL-i, known by enthusiasts and engineers alike as ?lift?
similar to Hondas VTEC) to produce the added power without an
increase in displacement or forced induction. The 2ZZ-GE was the
first production engine to combine cam-phasing variable valve
timing with dual-profile variable valve lift in the American
market. The motor uses multi-point fuel injection and features
forged steel connecting rods. The compression ratio is 11.5:1. The
engine management computer is a Lotus programmed unit. The
high-pressure cast aluminum alloy engine block had Metal Matrix
Composite (MMC) reinforced cylinder walls. MMC is a reinforcement
material composed of ceramic parts and fibers. The motor is backed
by a Toyota six-speed manual transmission (code C64). Toyota
commissioned Yamaha to design the 2ZZ-GE, based on Toyota's ZZ
block, for high-RPM operation and producing a power peak near the
top of the RPM range. The high-output cam profile is not activated
until approximately 6,200 rpm, (lift set-points are between
6,000?6,700 rpm depending on the vehicle) and will not engage until
the engine has reached at least 140? F. The Toyota PCM
electronically limits RPM to about 8,200 RPM via fuel and/or spark
cut. The ?lift? engagement and the engine redline vary by
application. Lotus 2ZZ-GEs are rev limited to 8,500 RPM. Inside,
those aforementioned ProBax seats are in excellent shape,
upholstered in black leather with cloth inserts. A three-spoke
steering wheel frames an instrument panel with a full array of
gauges. The dash, inner door panels and center console are all in
excellent condition. A console-mounted shifter and an Alpine stereo
complete the interior. Combine a vehicle that tips the scales at a
ton, puts the engine behind the driver and sources that engine from
one of the most reliable companies on the planet and you have the
best of all worlds. Convertible competition to this Lotus in 2006
included Audi?s S4, BMW?s M3, Cadillac?s XLR, Chevrolet?s Corvette,
Mazda?s Miata, Mercedes-Benz?s SLK 350, the Mini Cooper S, Nissan?s
350Z, Pontiac?s Solstice GXP, Porsche?s Boxster S and Saturn?s Sky
Redline. Lotus fans, roadster and cabriolet connoisseurs owe it to
themselves to check out this ?lise before someone else snatches it
up. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check it out for
yourself. VIN: SCCPC11196HL30571 This car is currently located at
