new-for-1971 SportsRoof Mustangs. €" Hemmings Muscle Car Profile
Hemmings went on: The... Mach 1 treated its buyer to a host of
popular-for-the-era upgrades, such as an impact-resistant molded
micellar urethane foam body-colored coating for the front bumper,
sport-driving-lamps-equipped honeycomb-pattern grille, closed
'NACA-type' hood scoops, honeycomb-pattern rear panel appliqué,
pop-open gas cap, 'Mach 1' fender decals, black or argent lower
body and front and rear valance panels, rear tape stripe with a
'Mach 1' decal, and color-keyed racing mirrors with driver's-side
remote-control. The nicely restored Mustang Mach 1 SportsRoof model
offered here wears classic silver paint over a black vinyl
interior. The car's odometer shows just 35,000 miles. Exterior
features include the functional twin air scoops, black
center-stripe hood, front urethane bumpers, large front air-dam
spoiler, Mach 1 badging on the front fenders, black hockey stick
side stripes, black trunk-mounted spoiler, and five-spoke, styled
steel wheels with Mustang-logo center-caps (mounted with Cooper
Cobra performance tires). The paint is in excellent condition
overall, and body-panel fit and alignment is proper. Mustang badge
in the grille and 351 Ram Air emblems on the hood are properly
mounted; Mach 1 decals are in excellent condition. No body rust is
evident. The car's interior features horizontal-pattern black vinyl
upholstery on both the front, high-back buckets and the rear bench
seat. Door trim is black with woodgrain inserts. The condition of
interior surfaces overall is excellent. Cabin floors are carpeted
in black with carpet mats in place up front. A leather-wrapped,
Mustang-logo factory steering wheel frames the large speedometer
and added SunPro® tachometer, with a smaller fuel gauge. The upper
center console adds auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, voltage, and
engine temperature. An upgraded Jensen® CD audio head unit is
mounted in the factory-radio location; rear speakers are mounted on
the rear shelf. Slide-lever-operated heating and ventilation
controls, a t-shifter for the automatic transmission, and an
armrest with storage complete the console. An analog clock is
located just forward of the transmission shifter. Under the hood,
the 351 Ram Air-identified Cleveland engine (in proper Ford blue)
draws air through the hood scoops directly into the massive stock
air cleaner. Valve covers are finned. (Be sure to sample the car's
engine note by watching the video linked with this listing.) The
engine bay is very clean and nicely detailed. All components are
properly located. Underneath the car, the snake-look exhaust
headers and full dual exhaust system with cross-over pipe show no
signs of overly aggressive driving styles or track use. The car's
trunk is spotless; its floor is covered in the correct-pattern
vinyl material.. The well-restored condition of this '71 Mustang
Mach 1 fastback is faithfully presented from every angle (including
from below) in the more than 155 high-definition photographs and
the short walk-around-and-startup video available at the
GarageKeptMotors site. That said, we always encourage in-person,
up-close inspections by interested parties-or their
