Vehicle Description
This 1972 Chevrolet Suburban Restomod is both practical and
attractive with its classic two-tone, a cavernous A/C interior, and
a modern 4x4 powertrain with a fuel-injected V8 and six-speed
automatic transmission. So it's all about delivering the classic
SUV experience in a package that has true modern appeal.
A classic Suburban is a rare sight, so people are going to take a
little extra time checking this one out. It lives up to scrutiny
where the factory-correct Medium Olive paint is sandwiched by a
tasteful white. It's the kind of glossy total presentation that
puts forward a look of quality. It makes for a good way to present
an attractive design that takes beefy lines like what's on the
hood, and then expertly mixes them with softly rolled curves in
areas like the full door line. It's what makes this Suburban both
substantial and stylish - all in the first glance. Good chrome
bumpers, full-length rocker trim, and Rally wheels are all part of
this vintage appeal, too. Still there's just the right hint of use
to make sure no one sees this as just a glamor machine. After all,
it's a genuine go-anywhere 4x4, and so that split tailgate is
perfect for sitting on at the campsite and roasting
marshmallows.
The interior is a terrific vintage package with the right upgrades
added. After all, the sea of green inside is pure 1970s cool. But
there's a freshness to the carpeting, door panels, dash pad, and
more that all tell you this classic look is part of a more recent
investment. And we especially like the cloth textured pattern on
the seats. Because both rows offer adult-sized space, it's also
nice to have all that cargo room in the back so that you know you
take everyone's gear along, too. When you slip behind the wheel,
nothing looks out of place for a vintage Chevy, but you can also
tell it's fully upgraded. The three-spoke steering wheel is
borrowed for contemporary sports cars like the Camaro, and while
the gauge housing is stock, the readouts are now crisp Dakota
Digital units. In the center, the classic Delco AM/FM radio still
provides the tunes, and below that, the standard heat controls now
help deliver cold-blowing R134a air conditioning.
When you lift the hood, this one has the unmistakable look of
modern power. It's a 5.3-liter V8 borrowed from a 2016 Yukon. That
means a healthy upgrade in horsepower and the consistency of fuel
injection. The installation is quite clean, and it's even supported
by the right components like an Optima red top battery and an
aluminum radiator w/electric fans. The six-speed automatic
transmission was also brought over from the modern vehicle, and so
you have an excellent highway cruiser. Plus, the two-speed transfer
case keeps this a proper go-anywhere 4x4. And features like power
steering, power brakes, and front discs are welcomed on both the
street and trail.
This is the perfect kind of classic that will make people jealous
everywhere from the school run to the boat ramp. When something
