For Sale: 1988 Buick Reatta in Lavergne, Tennessee

Vehicle Description

Designed as a halo vehicle for the entire Buick lineup, the Reatta is one of the most interesting American cars entering into classic car status. It comes with a strong and reliable powertrain borrowed from the Riviera, an agile all-independent suspension, and a sporty two-seat body full of every luxury option Buick could engineer. It makes for a terrific driver's car, and this 1988 example is a nicely presented coupe from the first year that launched the Reatta.

Workmanship is very good, because it was built at a factory specially set up by GM to build these low volume personal luxury cars. In fact, while General Motors is known for mass production, this Reatta can almost be considered hand-crafted. So something this carefully made looks great in a pristine white. The finish has aged well, because while the age makes it a true vintage coupe, the low mileage (averaging less than 1k annually) shows proper care and respect. So it's attractive and glossy today, and just a professional detail away from being ready for a feature car show tomorrow. And these will really start to get a lot of attention as people re-discover the swoopy hidden headlight design that's almost like Buick gave us what would have happened if the Mazda RX-7 or Porsche 944 were sent to an upper-class finishing school.

The burgundy pinstripe on the exterior is a preview of the full burgundy leather interior. Not only does the deep red have an elite style against the bright white exterior, but also the low mileage means this continues to show exceptionally well. A handcrafted car means exclusive seating for two done in supple leather. And they both power adjust for the ideal individual comfort position. The rear had a carpeted parcel shelf for storage/luggage, and there's even a trunk pass-through for large items. There's a long list of desirable features, including power windows, power locks, a tilt steering column, and cruise control. Your air conditioning, AM/FM/cassette stereo, and information on the car are all controlled through a touchscreen display in the center of the dash. Yes, you can get factory touchscreen controls in a car from 1988!

Under the hood is one of Buick's most durable and well-developed engines. The fuel-injected 3.8-liter V6 is torquey, efficient, and reliable. The motor shows all the right signs of being original and unmodified, so it starts instantly, idles easily, and drives with confidence. The Reatta was meant to be Buick's Mercedes SL competitor, so on the road it feels confident with even a little hint of a sporty exhaust. The four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, fully independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes makes this a great car for fun drives or even a daily classic.

This Reatta is a true collectible with less than 22,000 produced in total, and only around 4,700 examples were built in 1988, its inaugural year. So for those looking for a complete classic on a budget, your extraordinary Buick awaits. Call today!!!
