Vehicle Description
1937 Ford Phaeton
NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY
A phaeton typically is a 2 or 4 door sedan most likely with a
convertible top but lacks roll up windows. Not for the faint of
heart in winter it was a trend that did not last but for a few
years in the mid 1930's.
On consignment, a barn find 1937 Ford Phaeton. Initial restoration
was begun several years ago then abandoned, leaving us with this
"roller" if you will, in need of TLC. The lines are all there,
beautiful swept back V grille, teardrop headlights running boards
and a curvaceous rear deck.
Exterior
With its curved v shape swept back horizontal ribbed grille and
teardrop headlights which are slowly evolving into one unit with
the fenders. This running board style car was once painted yellow
on its original panels. Some replacement panels make up the front
part of this Phaeton. Gently curving bulbous lines abound on this
car, with aged metal and some rust showing through. The convertible
top has rotted from its frame, taillights are missing, and bumpers
have significant surface rust.
Interior
About all that remains intact is the free work for the dash and its
painted red. All else is there but in very poor condition. For the
back just the seat frame remains showing springs and some
deteriorating foam. Floors are rubber and will also need TLC.
Drivetrain
A very patina'd, unrestored 221ci Flathead V8 is tucked into the
unrestored engine bay. A single 2-barrel carburetor is on top clean
by a modern filter air cleaner. There is a 3-speed manual
transmission on this car as well as a 3.78 rear axle. The engine
does not run.
Undercarriage
The X frame remains intact and shows with slight surface rust. The
floor pans have fared worse with many invasive rust holes going to
the passenger compartment. Rockers are intact, just a bit wavy and
bent but no invasive rust. It appears as though a new fuel tank has
been put in. Transverse leaf springs are all around providing the
suspension, and mechanical drum brakes show up on all 4 corners as
well.
A barn find which needs the tender restorer's hand to bring it back
to life. Think of all the possibilities.
