Vehicle Description
1967 Chevrolet Nova Coupe
"Up with good looks. Down with high prices. The stylish economy
car.". The 1967 Nova sales brochure. The high powered Turbo Fire
327ci V8 that had been introduced the previous year as the
top-of-the-line engine option was discontinued for 1967. The Nova
SS got a new black accented grille. Optional front disc brakes were
made available for the first time.
With the introduction of the Turbo-Fire engine in 1966, the Nova SS
had snuck its way into a muscle car label, despite its small
stature. Really, it was somewhere in between the pony car and
muscle car class. Though its power had been diminished in 1967, it
was still a quick car that would become quicker as the years wore
on. For consignment, a 1967 with some of that zapped power put back
in with double hump heads, a rock crusher transmission, flame
thrower electronic distributor and Flowmaster dual exhaust.
Exterior
Painted in Marina Blue, straight steel panels, great trim, and
chrome, and shiny Chevrolet rally rims, (14 x 6 front and 15 x 7
rear), are seen on this very original looking simple but elegant
grocery getter. A nice black vinyl top covering is noted, and it is
surrounded by nice trimmings around the glass. Just above the
trimmed wheel well in front is a small "fold" in the metal, which
is a built in trim spear, but remains the body color. This runs
through the doors and to the rear quarters which support vertical
taillights and backup lights placed on top of each other. A nicely
curved back glass meets up with the trunk lid and rolls rearward to
a trim piece which runs between the taillights and highlights the
rear of the lid. Below is another pristine bumper.
Interior
Breaking up the black shiny vinyl on each door is a chromed T which
delineates the panels one housing the armrest, door pull, and the
other, door actuator and window crank. Black painted metal makes up
the sills of these doors. Inside we note very well done, like new
bucket seats with some black tuck and roll bolsters, a smooth mid
panel and a white stripe of vinyl cutting through the smooth center
panels. White piping is also surrounding these seats. The rear
bench matches these buckets in its style and pattern. Upfront a
simple angled dash using padded black vinyl on top and an aluminum
panel through the center, with more black metal below. The
instruments and radio are within this aluminum center. An original
steering wheel is fronting this clean dash, and a trio of
aftermarket gauges are hanging below the center of this dash. Black
carpeting in good condition floods the floors, and nicely
embroidered floor mats are above the original carpeting. The
headliner is nice and tight and showing in black vinyl.
Drivetrain
The consigner states that a 355ci V8 is now on board under the
hood. A flip of the hood confirms that it is a V8, however, not the
cubic inches, which remains consigner states. On top is a Weiand
intake manifold, and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. All this with a
bowtie orange/red block, and chromed valve covers and an Edelbrock
air cleaner covering in chrome. On the back is a 4-speed manual
transmission which the consigner says is a Muncie M22. The rear
axle is a 12-bolt 3.55 posi setup.
Undercarriage
Like new with no surface rust to be seen all buttoned up and shiny.
Very nice job underneath. Appears to have been powder coated, and
some previous repairs are looking well done. Also we note
independent coil springs for the front, and leaf springs for the
back. Power drum brakes are also on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
A quick fire up and warmup and off to the test track. I felt like a
superstar behind this wheel in this excellent interior. On track I
experienced smooth acceleration, bias free panic stopping, and nice
tight cornering. All fun actions were working at this time.
Well restored, well upgraded in the engine department, and nicely
done interior, we have a runner, and a gunner. If you are looking
for a smaller muscle car classic this one is truly a wild deuce in
SS clone form.
