Vehicle Description
1963 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster
1963 was the first year of the second generation (C2) Corvette.
With its Sting Ray like styling with hidden headlights, vented
coves in the front quarter panel and split chromed bumpers on front
and rear, it was quite a departure from the 1950's "Vettes or
old.
For consignment a 1963 Corvette Roadster Convertible. This car
presents in nice condition with a few faults in the fiberglass, and
a previous repair on the back. Bathed in red, and a black
convertible, we give you this classic Stingray, with a fuel
injected engine.
Exterior
Duntov was in his radical mode when he designed this car. Sleek
lines, thin pointed body panels, and split bumpers lead the way for
this beautiful automobile. Hidden headlights and louvers in the
hood are cues that this is a 1963 version. In the front quarter is
the Corvette cove but stylized to be dual rectangular openings.
Wheel wells are flat on the top and their protrusions continue
through the car at the mid line with a V crease that runs to the
back of the car, creating the pointed rear. A stainless steel side
rocker panel is on in lieu of any side pipes, and in back the thin
V shaped design houses dual round tail lights framed below with
another pair of split bumpers. On top is a very clean and tear free
canvas convertible in black. 15-inch chrome Cragar wheels are
wrapped in good condition rubber. Noted is a crack in the body at
the passenger headlight are stress fractures, and on back a
previous repair is revealing itself.
Interior
As with these gen 2 models, the dash is now a dual arch version
with a center "post" that runs to the hump in the floor. Within
this post is a vertical mounted radio, a few knobs and pulls, and a
large clock. On the passenger's side is the glovebox, and on the
driver's side is the cluster of round instrumentation. A wood
rimmed steering wheel is topping the original column. In the center
of the hump is the Hurst shifter and an electronic box to control
the fuel injection. Seats present nicely in black bomber style.
Black tuck and roll and some smooth vinyl is also on the door
panels, and black carpeting floods the floors.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 327ci V8 which has been re-stamped and is not
original to this car. It now has Edelbrock electronic fuel
injection. On the back is a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission
with a 3.70 rear axle. Consigner states he will also include a
Rochester Fuel Injection assembly and distributor from the engine,
which has been upgraded to the Edelbrock.
Undercarriage
All nice and clean with no rust showing under this car. Independent
front suspension with coil springs is on the front and full
independent rear suspension is showing nicely with no rust. Drum
brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and smooth idle. Pressing the accelerator has this
car come to life and on the test track it showed us nice
acceleration, good handling and smooth shifting with an easy
clutch. The oil gauge was reading low, and consigner states a new
oil pump was just put in, so it must be the gauge. Also, the
battery gauge was not working at the time of my drive. The odometer
and trip odometer are non functional. Lastly, the center of the
steering column was loose
A fair condition car with a replacement fuel injected engine, not
original to this car, but the engine has an original Rochester fuel
injection unit that will come with it. A nice driver, and fun to
put the top down and just cruise!!
