Vehicle Description
Collector-owned totally restored and highly-collectible 1958
Corvette Fuelie; driven less than 2k miles since restoration. 1958
was the first year for the stunning Silver Blue to appear on a
Corvette. The car has both a convertible soft top and a detachable
hard top. In 17 years of ownership the car has been started and
driven several times per month; short trips on the 17th Mile Drive
to Carmel By he Sea or Pacific Grove/Monterey. This car draws more
attention than a 2021 Corvette and many other high-end cars.1958
saw yet another significant styling update for the Chevrolet
Corvette. It was the era of styling excess in Detroit which in the
case of the Corvette meant more chrome faux louvers in the hood and
twin chrome spears down the decklid. The overdone styling has made
the '58 Vette highly desirable to collectors - similar to a 1959
Cadillac being the epitome of the era's style and worth far more
than a Caddy a year older or newer. The '58 Corvette also received
a new palette of colors and the paint was now acrylic lacquer
replacing nitrocellulose lacquer. The first ever appearance of
Silver Blue on a Corvette was 1958 and it was the 2nd most popular
color after white that year. The single headlight design was
replaced with dual headlights at each front corner. Beneath that
large chrome-lined air inlets were added. The scalloped sides or
coves of the 58 Corvettes body now featured outlet vents from the
front wheels. Two chrome strips ran the length of the hood
splitting each bank of headlights. These chrome strips pick up
again out back closer to the center of the trunk. The hood also
featured horizontal covered louvers resulting in what has been
called the washboard hood. This would be a 1958-only feature on the
Corvette. The 1958 Corvette had 9.2 inches of added length and 2.3
inches of added width. The cabin of the 58 Corvette was also
significantly updated taking the rather modest dual-cowl approach
of the previous dash and embracing a more dramatic interpretation
including a center stack for the analog clock as well as radio and
other controls. The new instrument panel featured a tachometer that
was moved to directly in front of the driver. For the 270 hp and
290 hp models that tachometer went up to 8000 RPM (standard tach
was to 6000). Seat belts became standard equipment for 1958. The
fuel injection engines are the most collectible and research
produced comments like ...the high-lift racing cam of the 290 hp
fuelie should have come with a warning of not 'intended for street
use'. This car's 250 hp fuelie engine is exceptionally street
drivable. The seller is an experienced and eclectic collector having
owned dozens of high-end classics and is an active auction
participant. The license plate makes reference to a first Corvette
STARTER VET.This is an extremely great driving highly attractive
Corvette that draws instant attention. The car is offered at
$128000. This car is garaged under a cover in Pebble Beach; to be
seen we need notice well in advance. Engine: Fuel Injected 283 cid
