For Sale: 1965 Ford Mustang in St. Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

The infamous "K-code" designation is a very tough option to find in any of the 1.8 million Mustangs produced from '65-'67. In fact, only 7,273 Mustangs received this K-code 289ci performance variant in the 1965 production year (1.1% of all Mustangs built in 1965 were K-codes). It would also be the exact vehicle selected by road racer, Carroll Shelby, as his platform vehicle to build his legendary GT350! The option included a solid lifter 289ci V8 with aluminum flat-top pistons, heavy duty connecting rods, larger rod bolts, nodular cast iron crankshaft with larger counterbalance for higher rpm's, dual point distributor, special Autolite carburetion and header type manifolds with H-pipe dual exhaust. These combined components produced an incredible 271 horsepower at 6,000rpm! If selected, it would be the most expensive individual option on the sales order which came standard with special geared top loader 4-speed manual transmission, larger 9" rear axle, and Special Handling Package to provide stiffer springs, shocks, and front stabilizer bar! It was a brutish factory powertrain and could not be combined with power steering, power disc brakes, or air conditioning. A weekend racer's delight!

Details About Our '65 Mustang K-Code For Sale:
We are quite excited to offer this beautifully documented 1965 Ford Mustang K-code Coupe finished in stunning Ivy Green Metallic over Palomino Vinyl interior (29)! Features on this classic include correct, number matching 289ci V8 Hi-Po engine, 4-speed close-ratio manual transmission, original 9" rear end housing a 3.50:1 gear ratio, upgraded 14" American Racing wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, R-Model center caps, Visibility Group (Remote driver mirror, interior Day/Night mirror, & 2 speed wipers with windshield washer), Accent Group (rocker trim moldings), original AM radio, tinted glass, back-up lamps, carpeted floor mats with embossed logo, and aftermarket SunPro tachometer along with AutoMeter under dash oil & water temp gauges to better monitor the engine vitals!

The engine block bares correct Hi-Po cast number C5AE-6015E with 6-bolt bell housing. It retains its original cast iron heads (#19 & #21), original harmonic balancer, original solid lifter camshaft, original 4-blade cooling fan, Shelby Cobra aluminum intake manifold (S2MS-9424A), custom exhaust headers by FPA, Mallory Unilite HEI distributor (original FOMOCO dual point/centrifugal advance distributor included), original style air cleaner, original motor mounts, Holley carburetor (concours restored original Autolite 4100 carburetor C50F-J with manual choke included) and export support brace. The transmission and 9" rear end are date-code original to this Hi-Po Mustang.

The entire car was restored mechanically between 2007-2009 while under ownership with a professional pilot based in Mesa, Colorado. Its list of new and reconditioned parts is far too long to list everything in this description, so it will come with a large binder full of receipts. The factory engine was completely overhauled by Top End Performance in Grand Junction, CO by owner Vance Wilson in June 2009 at 85,340 miles on the odometer. It received the full treatment being lined cleaned, line-honed, smoothed mating surfaces, balanced crank, recondition rods with ARP bolts, new pistons, heads ported fitted with Ferrea racing intake & exhaust valves, roller cam & rockers installed; rebuilt transmission, resurfaced flywheel, new clutch kit, Edelbrock Victor Series aluminum water pump, Northern performance radiator, new hoses, belts, fluids, etc. A set of photos is included documenting this service. Even the rear axle would get treated to a completely rebuild and conversion to a Traction-Lok set up! It would be dyno-tuned in-house to achieve 302hp/320 lb. ft of torque on 85 octane pump gas! We estimate it has more to offer now back in low land conditions!

The entire suspension system was rebuilt in July 2009 with upper & lower control arms, inner & outer tie rods, Grabatrak shocks & springs, idler arm, shackle kit, all bushings, etc. A new exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers along with further upgrades throughout 2013 included blueprinted distributor by Distributor Dynamics, custom built Holley 680cfm carb by Boulevard Automotive, electric fuel pump, Chris Alston's Chassis Works Total Control Products hardtop subframe connectors, center support with driveshaft safety loop. This classic Mustang also comes with two sets of wheels/tires.

Our available Mustang K-code would travel with the same owner to California and receive an impressive professional repaint in March 2014 by Lakeville Autobody & Paint in Petaluma, CA. It then received an all-new interior in October 2014 by Mustangs, Muscles & Classics of Santa Rosa, CA to include headliner, seat upholstery & foams, seat tracks, carpet & underlayment, door panels, arm rests, dash pad, mirror, steering wheel, horn ring, weather stripping & exterior moldings, trim & emblems, door sill plates, door & trunk locks, and more!

All drivetrain identification tags are present including a clear VIN stamp on the block itself!
