Vehicle Description
Since we don't have the room here to wax poetic all day regarding
this absolutely stunning 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Fuelie, let's just
go over some of the top highlights: matching-numbers 327/360 V8 and
4-speed manual transmission, 1K miles on the nut-and-bolt
restoration completed to NCRS standards, and multiple
industry-leading commendations including Bloomington Gold, 4
separate NCRS Top Flight awards, an NCRS Performance Verification,
and 1 of only 81 Corvettes to have ever received the Duntov Mark of
Excellence award. If you've been looking for an investment-grade
Corvette, there aren't many choices better than this 1962
'Fuelie'.
Sateen Silver is a somewhat rare and very dramatic color on a C1,
and there aren't many guys more passionate about their hardware
than Corvette owners familiar with NCRS standards. It's fitting
that this car's repainted finish is 100% correct, because nothing
looks as good as a light-colored Corvette convertible. You want
attention, you'll get it in this fiberglass work of art, but you'll
be too busy grinning like an escaped convict to even notice. In
2015, a comprehensive, open-checkbook restoration commenced on this
71k actual mileage beauty, and 3 years later it was finally
completed. The build always had an eye toward NCRS competition, and
since it was finished in 2018 (approximately 1k miles ago), it has
dominated the NCRS show circuit, winning multiple Top Flight
awards, along with an NCRS Performance Verification in 2018, and a
Duntov Mark of Excellence award in 2019. That last one is the coup
de gras (only 81 1962 Corvettes have EVER been awarded that
prestigious honor), and anyone that knows anything about Corvettes
should be familiar with that illustrious award eponymously named
after the legendary 'Father of Corvettes'. Fit and finish are
simply spectacular, truly befitting the car's price tag and status
with nary a blemish to be found. If the experts at NCRS didn't find
anything wrong this car, no one will. We don't use words like
"perfect" and "flawless" but this car comes pretty darned close.
Even up close, you'll notice that all the little stuff is right:
the doors close flush, the body gaps are even, and the pleats in
the rear of the body and profile coves are almost sharp enough to
give you a paper cut. C1s don't have a lot of chrome, but
everything on this car was professionally refinished back to stock,
including the bumpers and those finned rocker panel moldings that
are the coolest thing this side of, well, side pipes. And quite
honestly, there's nothing that looks as cool on a '62 'Vette as
that little badge on the front fender: Fuel Injection.
It also features a highly complementary black leather interior,
which is also how it came from the factory, because liberties
shouldn't be taken during a build of this magnitude. It's all new
of course, with fresh seat covers, new carpets and door panels, and
an expertly refinished dashboard packed with all those original
goodies. Corvette engineers gave you a full array of gauges from
the beginning of the make, all of which have been expertly restored
in this car, including the 160 MPH speedometer and correct 6500 RPM
redline tach (lesser models had 5500 RPM redlines), and even the
clock keeps time. This one also includes a restored and functional
Wonder Bar radio, fresh carpeted floor mats that match the pile and
pattern of the carpets themselves, and a cue-ball topped shifter
atop the 4-speed manual gearbox. Like most C1 Corvettes, there
aren't too many options, although you do get a working heater, lap
belts, and both a black soft top and a color-matched accessory
hardtop that seal the cabin up perfectly. There are no
modifications, no aftermarket upgrades, nothing that detracts from
the authentic Corvette experience, and that's exactly why this
particular Corvette has been heavily decorated by the leaders of
the industry.
Thanks to special cast iron cylinder heads with large ports, domed
aluminum pistons for 11.25:1 compression ratio, a special camshaft,
and a high-speed, lightweight valvetrain, not to mention more
displacement, this numbers-matching 327/360 HP Ramjet Fuelie
generates well over the "one horsepower per cubic inch" that made
the original 1957 Fuelie such an icon. Rebuilt during the
restoration approximately 1k miles ago, it runs beautifully today,
with a cackling exhaust note and the symphony of mechanical lifters
on the high-lift cam. All the correct details are there, too, from
the super-clean Ramjet set-up atop the intake, the chrome ignition
shield, to the finned Corvette valve covers at the flanks. All the
numbers line up correctly, including the date-code-correct
Rochester fuel injection system that's original to the car and the
RF suffix code stamping. Again, if it it's been showered with
awards by NCRS, you better believe everything is original and
exactly what it's supposed to be. Ram's horn exhaust manifolds dump
into a reproduction dual exhaust system, and as long as you're
looking around under there, note the insanely clean floors and
rugged underpinnings, which make this a bonafide show-caliber car
in just about every single way. Steel wheels with chrome spinner
hubcaps are exactly what you'd get in 1962, and they're all wrapped
in upgraded 15-inch Hankook whitewalls for a factory look. But if
you're an even bigger purist than the top 1% of Corvette fanatics,
the factory-original wheels and tires are also available with the
sale.
An insanely thorough and decorated restoration, full matching
numbers, and a great color combination make this a very special
'Vette indeed. Offered with boxes of receipts and photos of the
restoration, a reproduction window sticker, owner's manuals, and
loads of NCRS provenance, this C1 checks all the boxes. They simply
don't come finer than this 2-owner beauty. Call today!
