Vehicle Description
The first thing that popped into our heads when we laid eyes on
this well-built Camaro was: "Some cars just drip presence." Now,
that's all well and good unless 'initial draw' doesn't equal
'ultimate impression'. For a car to be truly desirable, that
presence must be founded on quality mechanicals. Well, we can
certainly attest that this panther has colossal merit to back up
its copious presence thanks to a supercharged LS3, a tough Tremec
6-speed and a roster of updated ancillaries that includes names
like Forgeline, Detroit Speed, Wilwood and GearFX. So, without
further ado, here's our latest world-class pro-tourer!
ALL-NEW 1969 CAMARO
Fast, fetching and an all-around classic car superstar, this sultry
Z/28 tribute is the product of a professional, ground-up build
that, according to its current owner, utilized entirely new
components. That highly detailed construction, a 4-year affair that
was completed in October 2020 by the pros at Metal Brothers Hot
Rods, dressed a fresh 1969 Camaro body in brilliant Blue Me Away
PPG two-stage. And today, sorted over roughly 1,200 miles, this
fantastic custom celebrates timeless, all-American swagger with
world-beating athletics!
Many enthusiasts believe the 1969 Camaro is both the pinnacle of
muscle car design and the zenith of classic Chevy design. This
perennial token of mechanical expressionism kicks off with a
familiar silver grille, which centers modern headlights and a
custom Z/28 emblem above clear parking lamps, a polished bumper and
a carbon fiber spoiler. A traditional Camaro header leads a
customized Cowl Induction Hood, which leads chip-free glass that's
sandwiched between bright wipers, bright frames and body-matched
drip rails. At the sides of the car, a sculpted profile is devoid
of everything but modern mirrors, factory markers and choice BBT
Fabrication Pro Edge door handles. And at the back of that profile,
a second polished bumper shades a seamless valance beneath a
factory spoiler, a second custom Z/28 emblem and billet-trimmed LED
taillights.
WHIPPLE & CHEVROLET PERFORMANCE
Enact this coupe's billet Ringbrothers hood supports and you'll
find 6.2 liters of hot Chevrolet Performance LS3 that, paired with
a 2.9 liter Whipple supercharger, funnels an easy 600 horsepower
straight to the car's rear wheels! That blower gets fed by a custom
Cold Air Intake, which shines in front of a color-keyed GM throttle
body. Color-keyed Whipple fuel rails are monitored by a
liquid-filled Aeromotive pressure gauge, which fronts a proven
Aeromotive regulator. Lightweight L92-style heads cap a nodular
crank, powdered rods, hypereutectic pistons and a spry hydraulic
roller cam. Those internals funnel spent gases through stainless
headers that were custom-fabricated by Mooresville, North
Carolina's Detroit Speed. The fires get lit by an American Autowire
Highway 22 harness, a Chevrolet Performance ECU and sleeved plug
wires. An anodized Wegner Automotive serpentine drive spins a black
Sanden AC compressor opposite a black Powermaster alternator.
There's a massive aluminum radiator that's slid between stainless
tubes, a Detroit Speed closeout and big SPAL puller fans.
Ancillaries are first rate in every way, with trick valve covers
and a small Radium Engineering expansion tank complementing a
trusty Wilwood master cylinder and a familiar Holley oil pan.
Everything rolls in a clean, body-matched engine bay that's
finished with sleek brace bars, carbon fiber fenders and relocated
coils. And, if 600 simply isn't enough, the smooth small block can
max out at a gnarly 670 rear-wheel horsepower!
LOOKS GREAT, DRIVES BETTER!
Bottom-side, a hydroformed Detroit Speed front-clip backs Detroit
Speed power rack-and-pinion steering with adjustable coil-overs and
tubular control arms. That clip leads a Detroit Speed QUADRALink
rear-half, which backs two more adjustable coil-overs with a beefy
sway bar. Behind the LS3, a McLeod multi-disc clutch kicks a
shielded Tremec 6-speed, which twists a proven 9-inch axle that,
thanks to the pros at GearFX, packs a Truetrac differential and
fun, 3.50 gears. Those bones are shaded by carefully undercoated
floors that have been supplemented with Detroit Speed subframe
connectors and Detroit Speed mini tubs. Stopping is a cinch thanks
to 14-inch drilled and slotted rotors, which get grabbed by bright
Wilwood calipers. Fuel is supplied by a custom stainless tank
that's equipped with a hearty 225 pump. Stainless, 3-inch exhaust
centers an X-shaped crossover in front of Borla ProXS mufflers. And
at the corners of the car, stylish Forgeline blades push 275/35R18
BF Goodrich g-Force Rivals in front of 335/30ZR18 BF Goodrich
g-Force Rivals.
STYLISH, FUNCTIONAL AND, BEST OF ALL, RETRO
Open this Chevy's tight-fitting doors and you'll find a custom
leather interior that was professionally installed by Oz Custom
Upholstery of Columbus, Kansas. Serious Recaro buckets are
garnished with contrasted stitches and stylish suede. A stitched
and leather-trimmed dash hangs Dakota Digital RetroTech telemetry
beside RetroSound audio and controls for cool Restomod air
conditioning. Speaking of audio, a custom, full-length console
anchors SiriusXM Commander Touch satellite capability in front of
stainless cupholders and a billet Bowler shifter. Custom side
panels split the difference between premium carpet and a suede
headliner. The driver spins a flat-bottom wheel around a tilting
column and Clayton Machine Works pedals. Behind the passengers,
muted Ringbrothers supports expose a custom-upholstered trunk. And,
according to the car's builder, copious Lizard Skin insulation
protects occupants from both heat and road noise.
Featuring charismatic style, excellent hardware and untraditional
comfort, this killer Camaro is a highly capable pro-tourer that
provides the best of everything. And if you're in the market for
some powerful, road-ready muscle that's poised to make a lasting
impression, it's a great candidate for your next classic!
