This 1973 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible has enough custom touches
to deliver a terrific individual style. But no matter how distinct
this Stingray is, it also never loses that classic American sports
car feeling - right down to its numbers-matching V8.
The '73 cars are a great collector item. They debuted the sleeker
color-matched front end, but still retained the stylish two-piece
chrome rear bumpers. In fact, this one celebrates the brightwork
style with upgraded rockers, a rear luggage rack, and a
great-looking set of full polished Rally wheels. It gives this
coupe a tasteful distinction. And while Dark Blue is a color you'd
find in '73, the finish you see here is part of a later
application. So it doesn't look out of place but it does deliver a
more modern shine. And this deep blue complements the white vinyl
convertible top to give this the appeal of a cresting ocean
wave.
While we like the way this looks with the roof up, taking it down
reveals a whole new dimension. There's a two-tone black and white
on the seats, door panels, and sun visors. It's another great
custom touch that really gives this Stingray a hint of a formal
look. This was built with some nice features, like power windows
and a tilt steering column for the upgraded steering wheel. There
are even provisions for factory air conditioning (it will need
servicing to blow cold again.) And overall, you know nothing beats
the experience of taking down the top and letting the wind run
through your hair as you listen to the V8 sing.
Under the hood is the numbers-matching 350 cubic-inch motor. The
first impression is a stock look with just some extra polish added
on top. But if you dig a little deeper, you'll see this V8 has been
enhanced for power with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor,
Edelbrock intake, and a nice set of long tube headers. And the
enhanced sound from the dual exhaust really lets you know you have
a healthy V8. More than just muscle, this is a fine all-around
driver. The fully independent sports suspension, three speed
automatic transmission, power steering, and four-wheel power disc
brakes make it a solid anytime cruiser.
