Vehicle Description
1969 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The sales brochure in 1969 claimed that the car had a gauge "for
everything but your blood pressure". Tachometer, ammeter, oil
pressure, sweep second rally clock, fuel gauge, mileage and trip
odometer, warning lights for seat belts, headlight position and
door ajar. The center console houses fingertip controls for the
heater, defroster, radio, vents, ashtray, cigarette lighter, shift
lever and parking brake, plus an engine rating plate and softly
glowing space-age fiber optics that monitor outside running lights.
Color-keyed deluxe push button seat belts and inertia action
shoulder belts, on the coupe, retract out of the way when not in
use. From slimline bucket seats, drivers enjoy just the right feel
of the new competition steering wheel with a resilient rim.
For consignment a Stingray from 1969. This car retains its factory
exterior look, however, has undergone several performance
modifications. For the purist though, the original equipment that
came with this car from the factory comes along with the car, it is
just not installed. This leaves the possibility that you could
return the car to its original numbers matching state if you
wish.
Exterior
It's 1969 and this Corvette is bathed in Can-Am White over the
fiberglass moldings that make up the body. This design utilizes
some nice curves, has a retro throwback with the shark "gills" in
the front quarter, and uses glorious chrome (soon to go away!).
That chrome leads the way with a V shaped front bumper and
surrounding grille supports, all in good condition. Stingray...now
one word...is showing up in badging just above the "gills". Chrome
window surrounds and side view mirrors are there too and a
stainless steel rocker covering emphasizes the exaggerated coke
bottle design of the sensuously curved sides. A T top which has
removable white fiberglass panels works flawlessly and shows no
leaks. In back a vertical rear glass has the long "flying buttress"
B pillars that gently land on the rear deck where the gas filler
cap is in the very center. The back of the car leaves an impression
too with the split chromed bumpers, round taillights and dual
exhaust exiting from the roll pan on each corner. 15 inch deep trim
ringed rally wheels are on all 4 corners and all are wrapped with
raised white lettered BFG Radial T/A's.
Interior
In wonderful contrast to the exterior Can-Am White we offer up a
not oft seen medium bright blue vinyl covered interior. This neat
blue first makes its appearance on the door panels. Neatly molded
and sculpted with small striped blue broadcloth center panels the
lock turn knobs, door actuator, and window crank are housed here.
Slipping into the high back thin design buckets we have smooth blue
bolsters and air vented tuck and roll vinyl cloth like inserts.
These chairs are in excellent condition, as is the center console
with its padded armrest/storage lid, with the remainder of the
console moving towards the dash in molded blue plastic to cover the
hump. Also, here is the shift lever handbrake and ashtray
surrounded in back plastic. Moving up from the console we have the
radio which is a retro styled aftermarket AM/FM system. There is a
port and cable for the iPod or phone to connect which is located in
the ashtray. Also, 5 gauges are lined up above in a panel that
monitors everything but your blood pressure (as the brochure
says!). A nice blue rally steering wheel with a trio of satin
spokes which come together in the center and mount up with the blue
center steering column. An angled dash houses dual deep inset round
speedo and tach as well as eyeball A/C vents, and a few simple
pulls. Padded blue vinyl covers the dash and dash top and is all in
excellent condition. Blue carpeting is on the floors, and this
wraps up a very clean presentation...take a blue bow!
Drivetrain
A forward flip of the hood, and we see the numbers matching,
original 350ci L-46 V8 block complete with A/C and power steering.
This mill now sports Edelbrock aftermarket aluminum heads. Also, an
Edelbrock intake manifold has a Demon 4-barrel carburetor on top. A
Muncie 4-speed manual transmission is on back and this is also from
the factory as per the numbers decode. On back, an AM coded 3.36
positraction rear axle is on. All very clean and corrosion free
with like new hoses and wiring which goes through an MSD ignition.
Hooker headers are now on and these melt into a stainless steel
Flowmaster exhaust system.
Undercarriage
Slight wear and patina are seen underneath, but overall, a solid
unibody all steel undercarriage is looking great and rust free. All
independent SLA forged aluminum upper and lower control arms and a
steering knuckle, transverse mono leaf springs and steel stabilizer
bar and spindle offset is the suspension for the front. On back
full independent suspension with frame anchored differential unit.
Transverse leaf springs are here as well. Power disc brakes are all
around and all is fine underneath on this 69.
Drive-Ability
I just adore these late 60's 'Vettes so I hopped into the thin high
backs and it was off to the test track, (definitely one of the
perks of this job!). Here this car has great acceleration, bias
free panic stopping, and great handling with that complex
suspension. The wipers did not want to work, but all else was
operating up to snuff.
All replaced parts will come with their original parts if you
decide to bring it back to factory. Otherwise, you have a clean
high performance piece of sculpture that you can drive everyday
reliably, and look great while doing it. The blue is definitely an
eye catcher and with the pristine white exterior and peppering of
chrome its 1969 again!
