performance Camaros ever sold to the public, this 1969 Chevrolet
Camaro RS/SS mark a compelling find with equal measures of
big-block performance and image. NOTE* This 396 RS/SS Camaro
Pre-Dates the 1969 Cowl Tag "X" Code. The X Code was a mid-1969
model addition, and started with the 12B (Second week of December)
build week. The car before you is a 10A car, which is an even rarer
version on the RS/SS Camaro 396 Introduced for the 1967 model year,
Chevrolet's new "F-Body" Camaro quickly stole the thunder of
archival Ford and its updated Mustang. While commonly believed to
have been a belated response to Ford's wildly successful Mustang,
the Camaro was actually conceived as a more conventional
replacement for the rear-engine Corvair. In addition to its
outstanding "long hood, short deck" styling that remains fresh
today, the Camaro's long list of available options allowed buyers
to literally specify a new Camaro to their individual needs and
tastes. Mildly restyled bodies for 1969 maintained the Camaro's
winning looks, enhanced by the RPO (Regular Production Option) Z22
Rally Sport option package. Lending an air of sophistication even
to the highest-performing Camaro models, the Rally Sport package
was available on all Camaro model lines, including the SCCA Trans
Am-inspired Z28 and aggressive Super Sport. Featuring numerous trim
and appearance upgrades, RS-equipped Camaros included upgraded
brightwork, concealed headlamps, underbumper back-up lights,
special tail lights and bold "RS" and "Rally Sport" emblems inside
and out. Handsomely finished in factory-correct LeMans Blue with
White Rally stripes over a white interior with black carpets, this
1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS retains the matching-numbers 396/375 HP
engine and matching-numbers 4-speed manual transmission feeding a
4.10:1 rear end. Excellent features include a Hurst shifter with
"cue ball" knob, bucket seats, power brakes, a tachometer and an
AM/FM radio. Additional appeal is delivered by front and rear
spoilers, side stripes and rear bumper guards, plus BF Goodrich
Radial T/A white-letter tires surrounding Chevrolet Rally wheels.
