Vehicle Description
Classic 'Vettes are all about the numbers. So take note when you
can find a well-presented 1996 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. This
one-year-only high-performance LT4 motor and six-speed is not only
a terrific package, but it's also quite a rare sight (in this case,
one of 197 ever made!)
The Grand Sports were the true swan song of the C4. Chevrolet used
it to showcase all the reasons why we love the Corvette - power,
poise, and true distinction. Combining Admiral Blue with Arctic
White stripes and those bright red hash marks on the fenders was a
stroke of genius. It's a look that dates back to the early '60s and
resonates deep within Corvette lore. Not only the appearance made
these instant classics, but also rarity, too. Only 1,000 coupes and
convertibles were produced in total, and when you look at option
packages, this is one of only 197. That's why this example has been
treated with respect, and we have documentation to support that
this has averaged only about 1,900 miles annually. And a
quarter-century later, the factory paint still has a terrific
luster in the sunshine; the doors shut with authority from good
panel fit; and the special black Grand Sport alloys still look
menacing.
Those dark wheels and dark accents around the car are a nice
complementing piece to the full black interior. So this is the
perfect machine for those who like to cruise with the targa top
out. The leather seats have the right bolstering, and even have
Grand Sport boldly embroidered in the headrest. Plus, both you and
your passenger can power adjust these buckets to the individual
ideal position. And that's only the tip of the premium feature
iceberg. This GS is loaded with automatic climate control, power
windows, power locks, keyless entry/alarm, power mirrors, electric
rear defogger, control cruise, dual airbags, and a powerful
AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo system with Bose speakers. And as a true
driver's car you'll love how the stick shift feels in your right
hand, and the grip of the leather-wrapped steering wheel for your
left one. Beyond that, the full gauge panel will remind you of a
jet fighter as the mix of digital and analogue readouts dance while
you test the limits of this Corvette's performance.
Chevy chose these Grand Sports to introduce the LT4 fuel-injected
V8. The 330 hp engine boasted a number of improvements, including
high flow fuel injectors, higher compression, and a completely
revived valvetrain (including performance cam.) The result was the
speedy fun you always knew was hiding within the C4's sleek lines.
With such a desirable upgrade, we are glad to what is believed to
be the original powerplant looking so sharp and clean. It's all
correct right down to the red Grand Sport tag that reminds you only
the best coupes got the LT4. The original appearance and good
maintenance also means it starts easily, idles smoothly, and runs
strong. While this coupe is beginning to sound like a car to park
for an investment, it would be a shame not to have some fun on the
backroads with the ZF six-speed manual transmission. Plus, the
fully independent suspension on the late C4s found the perfect
balance of road carving sports car and highway-mile cruiser. It was
all part of a package that includes power steering, four-wheel
power disc brakes, and grippy Goodyear Eagle tires.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual and maintenance
records. This is the kind of car you know is great to drive today,
and it will still be appreciated tomorrow. Don't miss out on this
total package modern classic. Call now!
