For Sale: 1949 Buick Roadmaster in Orange, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

There are a very select few American cars of the 1940's that can really be described as "sexy" or beautiful, but the 1949 Buick Roadmaster Sedanette became a timeless shape that was copied more than once in following automotive designs and is a design that really moves you when you see it. Previous to 1949 the Buick designs were a bit outdated, still in line with Buick's prewar body designs. But Ned Nickles, Buick's head of design from 1947 until 1959, led the team that gave Buick new life in 1949 making that model year arguably the best looking Buick of all time. Razor sharp and long rear fenders with incorporated sharp tail lights; the introduction of the chrome "ventiports" in the front fenders, clean yet bold front chrome grille, long chrome front fender lights that extend all the way back to the end of the front fenders, and the awesome gun sight hood ornament, the '49 Buick is nothing short of beautiful, arguably better looking than its Cadillac counterpart. The ultimate version of the '49 Buick lineup is the Roadmaster Model 76-S Sedanette, also known as the "Fastback" for obvious reasons. Being a Roadmaster, the wheelbase is 5 inches longer (all in the nose) than the Super and Special models, making it much more proportionally appealing. They are equipped with 4 ventiports on the front fenders, rather than three in the Super, and a much larger 320 cubic inch overhead valve straight eight engine that was only in the Roadmaster. The fastback roof line is perfect with its sexy layed down rear window and a small semi wrap around split windscreen that makes you feel as though you are driving a Bentley R Type Continental Fastback of 1952. Very few 1949 Buick Fastbacks exist today in Roadmaster form making them a unicorn of sorts.

Offered here is one of these very rarely seen 1949 Buick Roadmaster Model 76-S Fastback Coupes that is an exceptional original car in beautiful condition. Just out of a 35 year ownership, this car has been very well cared for. Wearing an older restoration now, it has really held up exceptionally well. Finished in Black, its original color, it compliments the car making it even better looking. All of the brightwork is also in exceptional condition. Upon our acquisition of the car we restored the gas tank, rebuilt the carburetor, changed all the fluids, installed new wheel cylinders and master cylinder, and installed new Coker Classic whitewall tires. It runs and drives very well and the Dynaflow automatic transmission works flawlessly. This is an awesome, straight car that is very rarely seen and is incredibly good looking. It's turn key ready to be driven, shown and enjoyed.
